The Giants’ victory today was a fireable offense for Daboll — totally selfish, and I mean that. It calls to mind the Jets beating the Rams in 2020, which caused them to lose Trevor Lawrence for Zach Wilson.

Are the Patriots a smarter organization than the Giants?

Why would Daboll let himself get fired so the Giants get a better pick?

Selfish? lol.

This is why you would be never allowed anywhere near an NFL field. At no point does a coach and players ever want to lose a game

In fairness I put it partly on Mara who allegedly told him 2 weeks ago he was coaching for his job. That's a stupid thing to tell your coach. Lie. Tell him he's safe and you are going to let him choose his QB. Don't give him a legit reason to screw you.

Pats don't need a QB. But getting the one would land them a windfall of picks even for one of these two guys because the Giants and Raiders especially will want one. Jets might too. They should tank next week.

True, BUT just the fact they don’t own the #1 pick means somebody can jump you.  Look at what happened when Carolina went up over the Texans most recently.  It didn’t work, but it gave them the pick of the 1st QB off the board.

Bad teams without a QB (and there are plenty) will ALWAYS be willing to trade up for the number one pick.

don’t think the pats trade that pick for a boatload to someone that does? Maybe even the giants?

Was just thinking that NE will get a nice haul for that #1 overall pick if they hang on to it. The next four teams picking will likely be ones that need a QB.

He could also “not lie.”

Mara could tell Daboll he’s safe, don’t win more games and screw us don’t worry, and MEAN IT.

Giants would be sanctioned significantly if something like that came to light.

Feels like that's what he's been doing across the rest of the year.

you don’t think tanking has been happening for years?

furthermore, do you think the NFL has any interest in proving it?

All you do is tell the coach, “don’t worry so much about wins and losses, this is a development year, play the young kids, your job is safe,” and the message will be received.

True but to create a post stating the coach should be fired for winning the game is rather stupid regardless of the ramifications.  Even if the coach is trying to lose, the players want to win as some (like the coach) have no idea if they will even be playing in the NFL ever again.
