Ray Stonada Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I cracked up hearing the Jets coach, whoever he is, come out for the post-halftime interview and say "We just gotta do us." They did themselves, alright. 3 Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 One of my favorite plays is when Phillips picked off that pass and immediately slid. That dude always seems to get injured on fluke plays, like interception returns. Smart to just slide asap. 5 1 Quote

Got to say though, the guy is a bit delusional thinking Rodgers could have run for the 1st down (Romo was saying "Run it". This is what was waiting for Rodgers at the first down marker. An accurate throw to 20, though, might convert. 5 minutes ago, Miyagi-Do Karate said: One of my favorite plays is when Phillips picked off that pass and immediately slid. Logic Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) It's weird, but watching the game yesterday, the win felt kind of "ho-hum" to me. Just sort of like "yeah. That's what we were supposed to do, onto next week". I can think of no better summation of this season and how talented this team is than the fact that a 40-14 thrashing of a division rival registers as "ho-hum" to me. What a Bills team this is. DrDawkinstein Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 After the offseason hype train was on speed rails, the Jets demise over the entire season was great to watch. And yesterday's devastating blowout was just the cherry on top. "The Jets have closed the gap and can overtake the rebuilding Bills this season" S%$k my d#&k! 2 Quote

I can't say I agree. The last 3 games, the Bills D has been so sus. In addition to giving up 44 points by the Rams, the Bills D couldn't seem to stop the run (137 yds), allowed 11 of 15 3rd down and a 4th down conversion, and only 2 punts at the end of the game. Unacceptable. Then against the Lions, 6 of 13 3rd down and 3 of 3 4th down conversions in addition to 42 points, 494 yds passing, and 5 passing TDs (though they did force 3 punts and get a fumble recovery). If you told me those stats, I would never ever think the Bills won. Then last week against the Pats, again, Bills D let them waltz down the field on their first 2 drives and again, convert 7 of 12 3rd downs, 2 of 2 4th downs, and 121 yds rushing, against a team that is just not that good led by a rookie QB who may be good, but isn't yet. So I was over the moon with the way the Bills D came out against the J E T S Jets. TOD, interception, safety, punt. *Chef's Kiss*. Now I grant that Rodgers played badly, but the Bills D helped him play badly by giving him no peace. No 4th down conversions, 4 of 7 3rd down, 112 yds rushing with the starters sitting in the 4th Q: Now That's More Like It. 3 1 Quote

There was a gap, with 'nard dog lurking in it, and Benford minding the LOG the whole play. Rodgers woulda gotten blown up if he tried to run it. Shoulda taken the checkdown to 20 though. But perhaps a different play is meant as this is actually 3rd and 1, but I thought it's the play referenced as the TE was open and Rodgers just badly missed him. It's about 1:50 in Quote

RunTheBall Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 That was a very satisfying beat down to watch. Getting the W was all that matters but it helps us BBFS sufferers when it’s a convincing win going into the playoffs. I liked that Coleman got that TD, think he needed that mentally. Mack Hollins is a treasure. Shakir has been meh last few games, not sure if defenses are keying on him. This is the second game in a row Josh hasn’t been throwing much within the structure of the O. He’s big play hunting and that concerns me. Idk if that’s because the Jets were covering our guys really well but I think the offense is much more efficient when Josh is playing more in structure and getting the ball out quicker while saving the Super Josh plays for a few times a game. Still think Williams needs to be in there instead of Milano in the playoffs. Milano looked like he was running in cement shoes although this was probably his best game back. Groot was awesome, Von has been playing well (I think this is the best we can expect from him), Oliver balled out, Jones kinda sucked. BTW, what happened to Bernard? The guy has been near invisible. I’m not a film guru and maybe it’s just the absence of splash plays but seems like his impact is much less than last year. Thought the DBs were solid for the most part. Bishop got smoked by a TE but that will happen once in a while, I thought he played solid overall. This bend but don’t break big play dependent defense concerns me for the playoffs. If those TOs dry up, which they might against better teams, Josh is going to have to put up 40 points a game. We go to war with the troops we have though, so we’ll see how that goes. 1 2 Quote

The offense also played a clean and mostly impressive game. I guess that, if I could further clarify my comments, it would be to say that this game looked like what Bills games have often looked like to me this season (thoug less so recently). They returned to the form they had shown throughout most of the year. Specifically: - The defense lets the opposing offense march down field a few times with relatively little resistance in the first half, but then stiffens up in the second half after learning what the opposing offense is trying to do, and mostly shuts them down from there on out. - The offense looks decent to good in the first half -- stagnating at times, but then re-committing to the running game and getting things going -- but then explodes in the second half and looks unstoppable. - The defense bails out some drives in which they allow the opposing offense to move the ball easily by coming up with a turnover in a big moment. I'll grant that the defense looked quite toothless against the Rams and Lions -- and even against the Pats at times -- so I could see where this apparent trend would be concerning. Taking into account the entirety of the season, though, I'd call those games the exceptions rather than the rules. In this game against the Jets, it felt like the Bills got back to who they have been for most of this season: The defense that gives up yards but takes the ball away, the offense that has a pretty good first half but a great second half, the running game, the Josh Allen rollout magician plays, etc. I suppose that's more so what I meant by the game feeling "ho hum" to me. The Bills team -- after a few concerning weeks -- showed us that they're still the team we were all so excited about for most of the season. But yes, to your point: That return to form was very welcome and much needed, and is a valid reason to feel encouraged this Monday morning. 1 Quote
Magox Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 PFF is not the end all but it is a metric and hopefully this accurately depicted Milano's performance and is a harbinger of things to come from him. Also, if the Bills start their starters, they should absolutely still play guys like Cole Bishop and Milano so that there is another weeks worth of evaluation to determine if these guys should get significant snaps in the post season. 2 Quote
