Mike Brown would find a way to make their window brief. Burrow is strange for a great QB. Usually a top QB elevates the talent around him, but Burrow really needs two #1 WRs to be successful. For example, the Bengals are 6-4 with Higgins but 1-4 without him. The only game that the Bengals won without Higgins was against the Raiders. Chase has played every game. So, just having the best WR in the league is not enough for him. He needs #1 and another top 10 guy to do anything. Quote
dma0034 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I wonder how long before Burrow requests a trade. If I'm Chase I don't sign. I play out the inevitable franchise tag and get out of there. Both are having possible career best years and they aren't going to make the playoffs and have no realistic chance at winning a Superbowl with Lamar, Allen and Mahomes having better teams every year. Nowhere near a bubble. 1 Quote

Great QBs are supposed to do that. Mahomes won a SB with JuJu and MVS as his two best receivers. Brady made Edelman into a star. Joe Burrow can't win a game without both of his all-pro receivers. 3 Quote

He was the hottest QB coming out of college, he probably could have used that to go somewhere other than Cinci, with the worst financials in the league. He played in Ohio during highschool and of course started at Ohio State so maybe thought he could pull a LeBron James. 1 Quote

Interesting. In the NBA the player is at the top of the food chain. In the NFL you can’t get over a terrible owner. 2 Quote

However, if he’s going to get mad they won’t pay Higgins AND Chase, when Allen, Mahomes and Lamar don’t have anyone on the level of either of those two, is a bit much. Especially when he’s seen the Chiefs trade Tyreek and the Bills trade Diggs. This is a good point if all true Little late to call a mulligan Joe . biggerdaddynj Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 (edited) If Burrow really cares, put his money where his mouth is and restructure his deal to give them room to take care of Chase and re-sign Higgins and make other moves (not a novel idea). That said, I know nothing about the current fiscal state of the Bengals (other than that the Brown family’s DNA seems to include a historic dominant “frugality” gene). It is the result of having a cash poor owner by the standards of the modern NFL. It happened to Palmer, it happened to Dalton, no idea why people thought it wouldn't happen to Burrow just because he was the best of those three. They don't pay people to stay and they don't restructure contracts each year to create space to strengthen a roster in a window. It is who the Bengals are. It’s why Burrow has had a far higher cap hit than Josh the last two years despite signing his contract later. Poor owner 1 Quote

DCofNC Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 (edited) They really need to force a sale of that club. Way too much talent being wasted without funds to back it/promote it. Let the Browns collect their 5 Billion and move on. Edited December 28, 2024 by DCofNC Quote

They’re valued at over $5 billion, and valuations are increasing by double digits annually. That’s virtually an unlimited source of equity to tap into. Which makes zero difference to him being cash poor. He could borrow against the value of an asset... sure. But he'd have to do that because he doesn't have the cash to just write that cheque otherwise. 1 Quote
SoMAn Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Semi-related…. is it just me, or does Burrow give anyone else the impression of being an egomaniacal D-bag? Can’t put my finger on exactly why, but I really dislike him and glad we have Josh. Quote

His season this year is the equal of Allen’s. Quote
T master Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 He's been a good player for a long time & after he won last night he walked around doing what looked to be what Manzeil use to do with the money thing . He's a primma donna NFL QB and he seems to be very ego'd out and very high on him self . I'm so glad we have Josh and if he was that way i'd want him gone but he's no where near that thank god ... Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 One thing about Burrow is the guy takes a lot of sacks. Too his credit he still finds a way to overcome most of those sacks. But I bring the sacks up because they are not all on the offensive line which is a suggestion so many like to make. Burrow has a little Russel Wilson in him in the sense that both will be high percentage sack takers their entire careers despite having mobility to move around. Between the two QB's they have 18 combined seasons all with sack percentages greater than 6%. Mahomes is being sacked the most of his career this year and still has a percentage just below 6% on the season. Quote
