It is the result of having a cash poor owner by the standards of the modern NFL. It happened to Palmer, it happened to Dalton, no idea why people thought it wouldn't happen to Burrow just because he was the best of those three. They don't pay people to stay and they don't restructure contracts each year to create space to strengthen a roster in a window. It is who the Bengals are. Yep. I have a hard time feeling bad for him when he signed the second contract. His agent, veteran players, any number of people who would take his call would have told him this is what he’s in for. 1 Quote
SCBills Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I get why Burrow is going to get frustrated at an organization that can’t/won’t do things his fellow elite QB’s orgs can/will do. However, if he’s going to get mad they won’t pay Higgins AND Chase, when Allen, Mahomes and Lamar don’t have anyone on the level of either of those two, is a bit much. Especially when he’s seen the Chiefs trade Tyreek and the Bills trade Diggs. 2 3 Quote
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Maybe Mike 'Pennypincher' Brown gets one of his well heeled pals to get Burrow a humidor full of fine 'El Fumo' seegars. That ought to brighten Joe's spirits. 🤨 2 Quote

He was the hottest QB coming out of college, he probably could have used that to go somewhere other than Cinci, with the worst financials in the league. He’s from Ohio….committed to Ohio State….why would he turn down the opportunity to play for his hometown team? Quote

Yeah, I agree with people who say Burrow lucked into having a great receiver group, but Brown is a terribly cheap owner. I wonder how many of these posters picking on Burrow complained about the Bills franchise before Pegula? The Bengals don’t even have legitimate practice facilities. Burrow probably wanted to overlook the issues when things were going well, but times change, and perception changes. He did “the right thing” by playing for the Bengals. Everyone who says he had a choice like Manning or Elway would have criticized him for being a brat. I think we’re being a bit harsh on Burrow, while taking it easy on the cheapskate team owner. 1 Quote

He just comes off as an arrogant turd. Everyone knew who Mike Brown was, and they even talked about it when the team was set to draft Burrow. Burrow signed his contract. He didn't have to. Now he has to deal with the person we all knew Mike Brown was from the start. Exactly, and I never understood why players like Calvin Johnson , berry sanders , and many more players, always keep signing with franchises they knew were going no where. I guess money over winning. 1 Quote

A convenient lack of liquidity.........despite rapidly expanding wealth. We lived this here in Buffalo too. Especially for the first 13 years or so of our playoff drought. Randolph Wilson and Mortimer Brown were two pea's in a pod. Whenever there would be a forward thinking plan/proposal on the table at the owner's meetings the vote would be 30-2. They liked it simple. 2 Quote

Augie Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 As much as I respect what Burrow can do with the right support, I never feared the Bengals long term. Mike Brown would find a way to make their window brief. 1 Quote

Coffeesforclosers Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Let them pay Higgins and Chase. I'm all for Cinci locking up all that cap in WRs. Joe could morph into some kind of Super Tua, if Tua looked like he'd be rejected from a 90s boy band. Quote
