Mark Vader Posted January 2 Posted January 2 1. JAWS. "Where we going?", "Swimming!" 2. Star Wars. Seeing that Star Destroyer fill up the entire movie screen was awesome. Then the appearance of Darth Vader. 3. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Fantastic prologue. 4. Saving Private Ryan. Intense and exhausting. 3 Quote

POLTERGEIST is also memorable with its national anthem playing followed by TV static. The days television actually shut off. That's a very good opening scene. I think that "Scream" has become outdated, but that scene is a good opener. Another horror movie that I would say has a good opening scene would be "The Ring". 1 Quote
Sweats Posted January 7 Posted January 7 My 2 favorite opening scenes would be....... Django Unchained........when buddy says to the slaves, "in case any of you are star aficionados, the north star is that way" Inglorious Basterds........."no one knows why they don't like a rat, they only know they don't like them" 2 Quote

I also loved the 90 seconds or so just before that opening - where they were just waiting at the station. The very first time I saw it, I was like..."what the heck am I watching". I could have included that portion in the clip I posted but thought that it was too long to get to the Bronson scene. 2 Quote

Years ago, one morning my brother and his girlfriend dropped by for a quick visit. They were going hiking. I started playing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. My brother had never seen it, sat down next to me, and started to watch, mesmerized. There is no dialogue in the first 10 minutes, lots of close ups, stare downs. Soon after, he takes off his jacket. 20 minutes in- he tells girlfriend no hiking today, he’s gonna watch the movie with me. He loved it. Later that year he bought he DVD with 40 Clint films. Those Spaghetti Western films are awesome! The whole scene 2 Quote
RkFast Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Something a little different. This little film is widely considered to be the most accurate portrayal of "The Life", even better than GoodFellas and GF 1 and 2. 1 Quote

It isn't the thread for it, but there is a recent western that I can recommend. I saw Old Henry the other night o the Roku channel and liked it. Low budget, limited cast and an all male cast. But Tim Blake Nelson is excellent in the lead role. It has a lot of elements of the Leone movies and closer to Unforgiven than anything that has come out in a long time. It has a "reveal", but you will figure it out long before it comes out. Anyone who watches westerns in the 21st century has a basic knowledge of the Old West and the little clues during the movie give it away. It has its flaws, but far better than anything that has come out in a while...like, say, the remake of the Magnificent Seven. 1 Quote
