I know there are some basketball fans that use the site.  But even since last year their ratings are down.

I say :

Make the rim at least 1 foot taller

Make a slam dunk 3 points

Make a shot behind half court 4 points

I haven’t known what’s gone with the NBA since LeBron left Cleveland the 2nd time.

But no way the league can go in like that without evolving a little

Eliminate slam dunks and make these guys learn to pass/shoot again.

Cut the season in half so guys might care at least a little bit. Too many games means they don’t matter very much. It will never happen ($$$), but if you go watch the Cav’s play in Charlotte on a Tuesday night in January the lack of effort can jump out at you. It jumped out to my son in the first couple minutes. “They’re not even trying!” Yep. I don’t even watch the NBA Finals anymore.

Defense is crap, too much 3 point shooting makes for boring games to watch. They drive to the lane, if someone is in the way they kick it out for a 3, and will swing it around as needed. Not that much talent needed to do that. There isnt much showcasing of their talent anymore.

Enforce the rules as written. Traveling, double dribbling, and holding/palming

The flopping and drama from the half dozen queens needs to stop. LeBron has helped ruin the game.

I saw some video of Oscar Robinson playing in his early days. I’ve seen 5th graders who looked like they had a better handle, but Oscar wasn’t allowed to carry the ball. It’s a world of difference.

Don’t get me started on traveling……

I love basketball and still watch the NBA a great deal.  That said, the league lost when they started letting the players act like the owners of teams.

Crap players are making way too much money and have way too much say in what happens with the team.

Another issue the NBA has is the games are on way way too late.   It's the same thing with baseball and hockey.  They care more about the few thousand people in the arena than actually trying to get the millions they could from TV revenue.   I am a big fan of the Dallas Mavericks but I am not staying up until 10pm for a game.

Do they still play the NBA All-Star game? What a joke! At least the NFL abandoned their farce.

EDIT: I have an idea! Merge this with the Christmas Drink thread and we might be onto something! That might help!

Eliminate the three point shot.  If you look at shot charts for NBA games, it’s either a three or a dunk.  There is no play between the two.  No mid to upper post play, no pick and roll, no mid range fades.  Granted, I watched back in the 70’s but the game then and the game today aren’t the same game. (And I don’t watch now)

Not to mention traveling and palming the ball…

I had season tickets to the Magic for 6 years and got rid of tickets for several reasons:

- players don't care far too often, if they are in year two of a 5 year contract they care about numbers not wins.

- players today are better shooters than at any time in past but worse at everything else.

- officials are terrible and players help cause it. Start punishing guys for flopping, first flop is one game suspension and every one after is double. By the 5th flop they miss half the season.

- lastly get all your games on ESPN like Hockey, I watch some hockey simply because it is on but have yet to watch an NBA game this year just because it is on.

You are sounding like an old guy.

My older timer boss 35 years ago would call Jordan:

Michael "Walk" Jordan.

He was the start of it. Once he earned his name he began being the biggest diva ever and took advantage of great supporting cast and did his swan song with a guy who kept him fed: Rodman.

The Pistons had better skill and discipline than the Bulls had but did not have diva Jordan.

The new guys now - the league is full of weirdo looking 6'6" monsters who don't play defense, who aren't tough, and are just extremely athletic without discipline.

This 100%

The modern era lacks true rivalries and the passion/physical play that we saw in the 80s and 90s.  These guys all bounce around to different teams way too frequently now.

Haven't paid any attention to the NBA since 2016 and don't see myself ever going back at this point

This is a problem with the nhl too.  Too many meaningless games.

Oddly, I'm ok with the 162 game schedule in baseball.  It's more of an individual sport and effort doesn't shine through as much.

While not perfect, I give the MLB a lot of credit for at least trying to switch it up with new rules.  The time to throw the pitch helps tremendously with the on the field product.

I really think the NBA commissioner could learn a thing or two from that league .

Golden State/Cleveland had a little juice for a while in the 2010s for me.  I mean it still wasn't the 90's ball or Knicks/Bulls back in that era but at least got me interested in it.

Was not even aware Karl-Anthony Towns is on the Knicks now.  He went to the same high school as me (he's 12 years younger than me).  Even that does extremely little to nothing for me to get interested in him.

Yeah Lebron going back to Cleveland trying to win them a Championship and that rivalry it formed with Golden State was the last time the NBA was truly compelling to me.

Although I didn't really watch much of it I was also glad to see Giannis bring a title to Milwaukee but outside of that there has been absolutely nothing in the NBA that has kept my attention after Cleveland-GS in 2016
