Xavier Worthy on the Bills certainly would have opened things up. Love how KC has slowly eased him in. Anyone still upset about trading the pick to KC? Also, how do you feel about our rookie WR at this point?

I personally would have taken Worthy over Coleman. He just has not impressed me in the slightest.

I think Coleman is better for us. His rookie year got a little derailed w/ missed time, but I like having the big red zone target over a speedster.

 

I don't think Worthy would be doing as much for us, either.  He fits into KC's offense.

Definitely willing to let it play out as I think Keon has WR1 upside, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I’ve started getting a bit frustrated seeing how well he’s doing on KC.

Did you see all the plays where we was wide open for walk in touchdowns and couldn’t get his feet inbounds?

I think Reid just maximizes him and his speed. He gets him the ball in reverses and a lot of screen plays. I don't like his contact balance at all though. Anybody touches him he's going down he isn't shaking off any tacklers. He's a good fit for them and now that they have Brown back, traded for Hopkins, etc its opening things up for him even more.

I’m not crying about Xavier Worthy.  He’s a good gadget player and we all knew Reid would utilize him well, which he has especially around the goal line.  But he’s far from setting the NFL on fire and shouldn’t be someone you pine over like this.   He’s mostly catching shorter passes like a gadget guy would.  
 

As far Coleman, informed fans knew he was a workin progress.  If you thought he’d step in as a rookie and light the NFL up, then your expectations weren’t realistic.  He needed a LOT of work on his route running and that would take time.  But I found it fascinating that Keon beat one of the best man corners in the NFL over the past two months in Christian Gonzalez on a fly route.  
 

Still Keon has almost as many yards and TD’s as Worthy does despite playing 5 fewer games and getting half as many targets:

Worthy 59 REC 638 YDS 10.8 YPC 6TD

Coleman 24 REC 498 YDS 20.8 YPC 3 TD

 

So I’m not sure why you’re carrying on like this.

I need at least 2 probably 3 full seasons to come to a conclusion. Worthy has come on lately and Keon had the one splash play vs Detroit but the Bills sort of shut things down vs NE in a weird game.

Pretty good role player. Wasn’t interested in him at the Bills spot and still wouldn’t have taken him.

The real move would have been moving UP for Brian Thomas Jr.   if those trade charts are still accurate it would have only cost a 3rd

Not really. Coleman is averaging 21 yards a catch and missed several games.

 

Worthy has 150 more yards on 25 more catches and has played in 4 more games.

 

Hardly anything eye popping.

 

If Coleman didn't miss time his numbers would likely be better than Worthy's.

Who cares.  It's literally a push between he and Coleman in almost every category except games played.

 

Neither guy has been all that good, Worthy has just been more available.

I genuinely don’t think we had a place for him in our offense. He just doesn’t fit here.

 

That being said, I am still upset that Beane traded that pick to KC. He fits their offense perfectly and he is going to be a pain in the butt to defend for years to come.

 

I have seen two primary rebuttals:

 

1) “KC would have picked him anyway”. My response; At their original pick? Are you suggesting that KC gave us a free draft pick out of the kindness of their heart when they could have stayed put and taken him away? 

 

2) “They would have just traded with another team to move up and get him”. My response: Common sense dictates that they took our offer because it was the best available offer. In other words, if they had another offer to move up, it likely would have cost them more. 

 

I didn’t like the trade then and I don’t like it now. You just don’t do business with your enemies.

I'm not at all surprised that he's playing well. 

 

For my part,  I thought Ladd McConkey was a better all-around prospect than either of them,  but the Bills clearly wanted a bigger,  more physical presence outside.  Regardless,  Coleman was playing pretty well for a few weeks before the injury,  so I think there's a good chance it'll work out OK for the Bills in the sense that they got what they wanted.

This is the move I wanted Beane to make and I thought Thomas closer to the Nabers, Odunze, Harrison Jr than he was the second tier of WR’s.

 

It makes you wonder whether they actually had an opportunity to trade up high enough for him, or whether they deemed the price was too high.

There’s a common behavior among some Bills fans - whenever a former player has a modicum of success, it elicits extreme lament and cognitive dissonance resulting in statements like:

 

”WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRADED HIM.”

 

It doesn’t matter if it’s Xavier Worthy, Isaiah Hodgins, Tim Settle, Tyrod Taylor, John Feliciano etc.
