Thoughts on Amari Cooper?

What are your thoughts on Amari Cooper so far?
 

Two targets this past Sunday vs the Patriots. Zero targets vs. the Lions. He’s had two decent games but he seems to be invisible most of the time. I know he’s due for a contract but I feel like we can replace his production with a WR in the draft. I would like him back but I wouldn’t overpay.

If it wasn’t for Amari most of these other guys wouldn’t be getting open. He is the reason others get open easier so the offense can move and give Josh more options and easier options. Just because he hasn’t been getting as many targets doesn’t mean anything.

He was a good midseason addition...but this is also par for the course for Amari's career and I would not bring him back unless its on a really cost friendly deal.  If he wants WR1 money, hard pass.  Not only does he have more drops than people realize, but his career pattern is a few big games that make up like 40% of his season totals, then the rest are meh to invisible games.  

 

Does he make our team better, yes...but how much better is questionable.  In 4 of his last 6 games he has a total...a TOTAl...of 25 yards for a whopping 6.25 yards per GAME.  That includes games of 0 yards, 3 yards, 10 yards, and 12 yards.

 

Since joining Buffalo has is avg 34 yards per game catching 62% of his targets.  If you can retain him cheap, then consider it...but if he wants legit WR1 money, pass.

Ever since Joe Brady has taken over, there's been an obvious effort to go to whomever is open and to focus on pass catchers that are seeing the least amount of attention in coverage. This is a large part of the reason Stefon Diggs pretty much disappeared after he took over and why he reached a breaking point with the team, IMO.

 

Amari Cooper is the most accomplished WR on the team and as such, regardless of his usage over the past few weeks, will be facing the top Corner and be the focal point of coverage by opposing teams D-Coordinators. As was pointed out by others, this attention allows the players who have been making plays to do so.

 

To his credit, Cooper seems to have no issue with being essentially a decoy since returning from injury (unlike Diggs before him).

He helps Josh and the offense whether he gets targeted or not and he'll hopefully step up in the playoffs... Not bad value for approx 700k for the year.

 

If it doesn't work out as elwe hope in the playoffs, then we have no obligation to extend him.  I'm hoping it does though and we can get him on decent value for next year... Maybe Beane can use his regular season stats to lower the amount 😏

Our top receiver is Shakir who averages 57 yards per game

 

Cooper is 4th on the team at 34 yards per game

 

We have 10 players who average over 12 yards receiving per game

 

The offense spreads the ball around a ton. As long as Cooper makes splash plays like he did vs KC it was a great investment. As for upcoming years, I agree I would not pay a ton of money for him but would welcome him back at like a Samuel level contract.

Not concerned in the least about Cooper, I suspect Beane has a plan, as does Joe Brady, jmo.

He draws other teams top corners. Might have had some light games but our offense looked unstoppable with him against Detroit.

I agree.  I have a feeling he is going to go off in some key playoff game and it will be critical.

Increase his snap counts and maybe he would be more productive.  Last week he was 4th among WR’s in terms of snap counts.

What I’m seeing is more wishing they had gone after D-Hop and got a guy that actually does something.  No offense to Cooper, but he’s always been a great #2 to average #1, he has blow up games and weeks of nothing.  It would be nice if he found a few weeks of big production in the playoffs.

The comments I'm reading sound like we wish we had Diggs back, as in we have a guy who the offense runs though. Tell me again, why do we want that? Why do we want the other team to know who they have to stop?
