Former Bills coaches Elijah Pitts(RIP) and Jim McNally recognized by HOF

There is a 5 member HOF selection committee that honors behind the scenes contributors to football such as position coaches, equipment guys, etc...

 

This year both Elijah Pitts and Jim McNally(Kenmore native as well) were chosen for their Award of Excellence.

 

Additional fun fact...Elijah Pitts scored the first rushing touchdown in Super Bowl History.

Two very deserving recipients.  I remember reading in Jerry Kramer's Instant Replay how they would call Eli "Olive", "Gravel", "ZaSu", and every other kind of pit.  RIP Elijah Pitts.

For those that didn't know our didn't remember, Pitts was assistant head coach under Levy. 1n 1995 Levy had prostate cancer and Pitts was the head coach for 3 games. 

 

I remembered the above but had completely forgotten that he coached under Knox, left, and came back to the Bills under Stevenson. He stayed with the Bills until he passed away during the off-season in 1998.
