dorquemada Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 He needs playing time to get better. Not sure he'll ever reach what we was told was his potential but to give up on him after playing parts of a few games his rookie season is silly. 2 2 Quote

Bishop is getting significant playing time which tells me he's doing very well in practice. McD is not one to go lightly with his DB's. I also suspect that on game tape, Bishop is doing better then many of us realize given that McD is sticking with him. My own admittedly less then expert eyes sees him missing some stuff but also making some nice plays to. The one thing I have noticed is that he's fast and sticks his nose in the hole. I believe he will be a very good starting safety for the Bills for years to come. His comp as far as rookie season experience is Bernard & Williams. 6 1 Quote

I think Sean wanted McDuffie and that safety that went before Bishop…name escapes me. I think they also wanted Breece Hall instead of Cook. First of all Sean doesn't run the draft. Second of all Elam was their guy all along. Third of all Hall went like a full round before Cook so whether they wanted him is not really that relevant (and they got the better player in any event). Bullard is the guy who went just before Bishop. I can imagine he was of interest, but he has mainly been playing nickel for Green Bay. 3 1 Quote

McD must be fairly happy with Bishop or he wouldn't still be getting starts. 1 Quote
Mat68 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 We are shredding him for garbage time? Not great but they were also playing ultra aggressive because coverage all around him was suspect. He is coming along as you would expect in a multiple coverage defense. Playing closer to the LOS would have made an easier transition because that is where be played in college. Hard to compare his arch to players playing different positions or in simplistic schemes. 1 1 Quote
colin Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 He has holes in his game, but he can bring some fire and is fast and strong. I have Joe, but he's not great so far Quote
JMM Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Missing training camp was a big issue. You can see he has the physical tools, but the game is currently too fast for him. He is struggling with his keys. I fully expect him to start next season. 1 3 Quote
rajinka Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 It seems like with these highly athletic draft picks the rookie year seems busty then second year after learning the system they explode 1 Quote

I like how aggressive he is, once the game slows down a little for him I think he'll be good. For all McD's bad luck with the DL, he sort of maybe makes up for some of that with the secondary 3 Quote

Utah John Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Absolutely the Bills should be giving Bishop reps against New England. Despite their poor record, as we saw last week their rookie QB is a real talent, and it will be good for Bishop to work against good players. He has improved quite a bit over the course of the season, and I think he'll be much better after next year's OTAs and a full training camp. 3 Quote

That might be the coaches telling him to do that. Or it could be he is still gaining his footing as to how to settle into the zone coverages. But I have felt that if he can play “down” a bit more, he’d be in such better positions to explode to the ball. Quote

I think it would be ignorant to think it didn't play a huge role in Bishop over other safeties in the class. So you’re thinking the scouting staff was advising Beane against Bishop, but Beane decided to go rogue and take Kincaid’s input on him instead? Quote

I think they had a cluster of safeties rated the same and Bishop got pushed to top because of the endorsement of Kincaid. I think Bishop's tape in college was suspect and there were other safeties available that had better tape, but Beane went with the guy that graded out athletically good and already had the stamp of approval from Kincaid. Agreed, Sean does not run the draft BUT has a big say in who is drafted, so his input is vital as particular players can play in his system. 1 Quote
JPL7 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 “He’s a bad pick” Good God almighty, anyone saying that is a shortsighted fool. They don’t understand the safety position in this system. They don’t grasp how detrimental missing all that training camp was. Knee jerk reactionary foolishness at its finest. 🙄 1 1 Quote

I’m assuming that’s directed at me. I said, “at this point” and “obviously, it’s early.” He is 100% behind other guys recently picked around him, at that position. It doesn’t mean that his career is over. At the same time, the Bills would be in much better shape if they called “Calen Bullock” instead of “Cole Bishop.” If you disagree, I question which one of us isn’t understanding the safety position. 🙄 Quote
KentuckyBillsFan Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I wanted Bullock and Kinchens over Bishop but it is what it is at this point.. Just hope he continues to develop. Quote
