I never said you wanted to trade him. Just knew you started a topic on him.  Some other posters wanted to trade him because he could not move fast enough for speed rushers on the outside.

He has developed nicely and has a great punch out technique. And he does not over reach like he used to.  Footwork has been much improved.

Know we just need to sign Ted Washington as the 1t. Mite be a little old though.

Yeah this is the thread you were talking about.    Brown obviously improved as the season went on but the basic premise that he was the biggest problem in 2022 and then again at the start of 2023 was wrong.   Saffold was the biggest problem in 2022.  By A LOT.   But the person you were talking about wanting to trade Spencer Brown was @NewEra.

Yeah- I didn’t like him.  He’s improved greatly.  He’s been injury free.  The player he was in 2022 wasn’t good.

I was wrong.  See how that’s done?

I’m happy that he improved and has stayed healthy.  I wasn’t happy with his contract extension being 18m or whatever it is.  He looks to be worth that contract.  I just didn’t think paying a Rt big bucks was a smart cap move.

At the end of the 2022 season, many of us wanted a new RT to compete with Brown after a lackluster sophomore season.  But Beane stood up for him at the end of the year press conference and he was 100% right.

Unfortunately, he did the same for Gabe Davis and Tremaine “he does things that don’t show up on the stat sheet” Edmunds.  His loyalty wasn’t really rewarded in those players.

But Beane put his money on the player that deserved the big $ extension and let Gabe and Tremaine get way overpaid by another team

I dogged him last year. But yes, he is animal this year. Great pick.

To be fair he’s had a lot of struggles with inconsistent play and injuries his first couple years. Last year I felt he improved throughout the season and something clicked for him. The switch to Joe Brady last year helped him a lot.

He has 15 accepted penalties in 15 games. A player should not be averaging a penalty a game, that’s absurd

True, the flags must be dramatically reduced... Yet he has developed into a really good RT.

Yeah that was just a weird thread decision for a lot of reasons.   Not the least of which is that teams with bad RT play have been winning SB's periodically for years.   You can scheme around issues there.   But also because Brown was so inexperienced and so athletic and his growth had been slowed by an injury the year prior.   The guy played 7 man football in HS,  barely played in college but started at RT as a rookie in the NFL and was decent.  That was impressive, all things considered.   He wasn't a player who should have been on any kind of thin ice with the fans.    But some folks were unnecessarily impatient.

I don't disagree about the contract though.   That was a significant risk at a position where you don't need a stud player to succeed.   RT is not really an edge/island position because they typically have a TE to help.   And I thought Grable or even Gouraige might be able to step in next year for pennies on the dollar.    But I've always believed in Spencer Brown and glad they have him.   But there will be things they can't do because of that contract so time will tell if it was the right move.   The extension starts next season.

Injuries were a huge part of my dislike for him and why I preferred to trade him.  Hurt after 5 games in college.  Missed an entire year.  Played a year.  Sat out a year for Covid.  Suffered injuries and missed game as a rookie and 2nd year.  6’8 with a back injury.  Some guys are made of steel.  Some guys are not.  His injury history suggested injuries would be something he’d always be dealing with.

So did JRober38 if I remember right. He was a huge Mahomes believer in the draft and I think he quit when we traded the pick away.
