notpolian Posted Monday at 06:17 PM Posted Monday at 06:17 PM Maybe I missed this in other threads, but I have an honest question from yesterdays game. Has the coaching staff or anyone else indicated why Spector was starting instead of Williams? Does Williams still have a lingering injury? I know opinions vary on a lot of topics on this site and elsewhere (it's ok, kinda fun with all the highly engaged fans), but I don't think I'm stepping out too far on a limb to say that Williams is better than Spector. My not so hot take might be Spector is in the running for least effective player on a not too effective defense lately... Quote
The Wiz Posted Monday at 06:18 PM Posted Monday at 06:18 PM I was questioning it as well. Maybe they had him on a snap count because he was coming back from his injury and was finally forced to play more when Spector got hurt. Spector was awful. Would have rather had them playing Buffalo Joe. 2 Quote
Dave_Bills Posted Monday at 06:22 PM Posted Monday at 06:22 PM I think there is some “load management” going on with this team. They are trying to get by opponents and giving enough rest to others 1 1 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted Monday at 06:23 PM Posted Monday at 06:23 PM (edited) I think the Bills are using these games to evaluate some players. Almost like preseason games. Edited Monday at 06:24 PM by Buffalo_Stampede 2 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted Monday at 06:38 PM Posted Monday at 06:38 PM Since Williams has an elbow injury and it was cold….I can understand why they wanted to play Spector a bit. 2 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted Monday at 06:41 PM Posted Monday at 06:41 PM McDermott said in the presser both of them were nicked up and with Milano out they wanted Spector to play run downs and Williams to play 3rd downs. Then Spector couldn’t go and Williams came on the field full time. I saw Andreessen get a snap too and looked like he was in on the tackle 1 Quote
Casey D Posted Monday at 06:41 PM Posted Monday at 06:41 PM (edited) Williams said he was playing hurt after the game but played more after Spector went down. Williams was wearing a brace that restricted his movement. Said it made life difficult, but "you gotta ball out." Edited Monday at 06:41 PM by Casey D Quote
947 Posted Monday at 06:50 PM Posted Monday at 06:50 PM Dorian was wearing a Gronk-style elbow brace, so it must be in pretty bad shape. But if he can keep playing in it as well as he did yesterday, he's our 2nd best LB. Quote
Kelly to Allen Posted Monday at 06:54 PM Posted Monday at 06:54 PM Just start buffalo joe next to Bernard and give ulofoshio some reps. Rest Milano and Williams for the playoffs 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted Monday at 06:54 PM Posted Monday at 06:54 PM They were both hurt and sharing the load per McD. Spector sucked in coverage but I am bot buying into the "game turned when Williams came in" narrative. He was pretty ropey in coverage too. Other than Elam nobody gave up more yards. Quote

4BillsintheBurgh Posted Monday at 07:05 PM Posted Monday at 07:05 PM Seems like they weren't scared enough of the NE passing game to force start Williams with the playoffs looming. A little concerned that Spector is made of glass and hopefully ulo will be ready next year or we may need a free agent reserve/draft pick to provide some depth. Quote

If Spector is forced into a meaningful playoff role I think it’s over for us anyway…he’s just free yards in coverage 1 Quote
Rigotz Posted Monday at 07:11 PM Posted Monday at 07:11 PM McDermott said the plan was to rotate Dorian and Specter because Dorian's elbow was not 100% and they didn't want to push it. The more honest answer is "we can take the Patriots down with our B squad, so don't push it." Nearly backfired! 1 Quote

Williams is not much better in coverage but Spector is useless in every area and Williams is pretty good at everything else. Feels like there’s a massive difference between those two guys talent wise to me that’s the big problem with Spector for me there’s just nothing he’s even halfway decent at so he’s exploited by literally anything the opponent wants to do. If he was terrible in coverage but pretty solid in run support things would not be anywhere near as bad with him in there. Edited Monday at 07:43 PM by Generic_Bills_Fan 1 Quote

I just take issue with the "game turned on Williams coming in" narrative. Quote
Bimmer323i Posted Monday at 08:07 PM Posted Monday at 08:07 PM Spector is so fen bad I don’t care if I ever see him take another snap again Quote

But the Defense definitely improved when Williams came in for Spector. Quote
