Where are we getting this crap from?

Some of you are TRULY delusional.

OP stated a week ago or so "God doesn't seem to like McDermott", so take it up with him.

When Damar Hamlin is a starter, you know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

If Josh doesn’t don the super man cape and bulldoze 5 KC Chiefs on his way to a 30 yard TD run, it’s likely Mahomes leads his team to a game winning TD drive.  The defensive schemes and play calling has been suspect all year.  They learned nothing from 13 seconds…this zone D is going to continue to cost the Bills SB trips.

LOL This is such faulty logic that it’s laughable.  I’m hoping others will chime in.

“If Josh Allen wasn’t such a good QB, the Bills would never get that win”  Um… yeah.  You don’t usually beat Kansas City with Mitch Trubisky.  Even if Allen gets tackled, he still picks ups the first down on 4th down which allows the Bills to bleed the clock.  Plus are you saying Buffalo doesn’t score in the red zone after his scramble.

Second, Kansas City had the chance to make a quick score and come within an onside kick of winning. That zone defense that you “sucked” ended up coming up a game ending INT

The defense does deserve some criticism this season but your analysis shows a massive bias as well as, perhaps, a lack of football acumen.

You’re right, the Bills defense is great…absolutely nothing wrong because they played semi decent against the Chiefs.  Let’s ignore the ~100 points they’ve allowed the last 3 games.  Saying I’m bias while concluding the defense is fine because they played decent in 1 game is 🤦 worthy.  Waiting for you to throw some PFF grades at me next.

Please show me where I said the defense was great?  I just thought your analysis was incorrect.

I said the game against an undefeated Kansas City was the best the defense has played all season.   They pressured Mahomes, confused him with coverage and forced 2 turnovers.  They also held Travis Kelce to one of his worst performances ever.

Your response would indicate that the defense didn’t play well and that they only won because of Josh.  I think we’d all agree this is faaaaaar from the truth.

You can be concerned about the defense over the past few weeks, yet still acknowledge that this was a great performance.  Instead your analysis is “the defense sucks.”  Insightful.

We’ve gone over this a million times! McDs defense is designed to make the opposing team go the length of the field without making a mistake. It works in the regular season against average QBs and when the refs are bound to call a drive stalling penalty or two against your opponent. It ultimately fails in the playoffs when the opponents are better and the refs tend to let the teams play.

Period!

This is a really good point that’s often overlooked not just defense but every where on the roster.

No one in the preseason took a look at the Bills roster and said “that’s a team that will content for a Super Bowl.”

McDermott, Brady and of course the MVP are getting more out of less this season.

I am still hoping for the #1 seed, so they don't have to play WC weekend. But they have to at least get the #2 seed. I don't want the Bills to go in as the #3 seed. That could set them up for a road game at Pitt/Bal. I especially don't want the Bills to have to go to Baltimore. If they have to play them then at least get the game in OP. The Bills being a very good home team would have a much better chance beating them at home.

Right.

The Bills shouldn't have any trouble with the Steelers in the playoffs.  While Pittsburgh is generally solid (and dirty) on D, they can't score enough points.

The Ratbirds are dangerous, but JA can expose their D easily, home or away.

Where was the back pedal, sir?  I said they played a great game against a top offense.  Better than Houston did on Saturday, despite Mickie2Times calling them a “great” defense.

For that reason, while they’ll never be a “great” defense, not impossible to think they can improve from what we seen on defense over the past few weeks.

Insight, consistent and pragmatic.  See how that’s done?

We don't have a Super Bowl Defense.  I'm sorry if this statement hurts some feelings. It's both talent and scheme.  We haven't had an elite pass rusher or game wrecking DL player in the Allen era. Then you factor in defensive injuries every year.  Since when has beating the Chiefs every year in the regular season ever translated to the playoffs. Milano was basically the closest thing to a dominant D player.  Now he's just an injury machine. Josh is Superman and yes he can put up points but if we get behind 14-0 against a playoff caliber team, it's probably over.  Sean either better find a great pass rusher or change his scheme.

If that’s what you took away from my comment about the Chiefs then you don’t understand.

My point was the defense has performed well and better….yes BETTER… than a defense like Houston who some here believe is the second coming of the 1985 Chicago Bears.

It was pretty obvious where I was going.  Both McDermott and the defense have the potential to perform well against a top contender, so it’s not inconceivable to think they’ll perform better than what we’ve seen over the past few weeks.

To your point about the defense, I too have the same concern and the biggest issue is the defensive line.   But I think it’s more about individual talent than it is about scheme.

McDermott like most defensive coordinators  will not be changing his scheme.  Especially because all of the returning personnel fit that scheme.

But I would not be surprised to see more of a mix between zone and M2M coverage starting in the playoffs.

From where I sit, the biggest flaw we have is an inability to make changes in game that put us over the top vs the best teams.  Vs the Rams and Ravens we seemed to try some stuff, but it didn't really help.  Our lack of talent this season may well make that impossible, but we seem to have had that problem for a long time now.  Maybe MCD is too stubborn, maybe the scheme isn't multiple enough, or maybe the people we have just aren't good enough, but I'll be very pleasantly surprised if the d was up and goes from getting rolled in the first half to being solid in the second in the playoffs.

The d was solid vs KC, and for like 3 quarters for at Detroit, so I'm not stopping the gravel in judgement until the playoffs

You know what's brilliant, assuming this team will get it figured out on defense by the playoffs.

They rank DEAD LAST since week 8 in EPA defense if you don't include turnovers, 26th if you do.  It's a bad regulars season defense which is a first for McD. Can't imagine what that translates into come postseason.

I am not worried about them figuring it out on defense.   I am worried about them scoring more points than the other team.   I've seen enough of the defense this year to know its not about scheme, which is what everyone is crying about here.    They dont have the horses on defense.   Crying about the defense when they are down to a cornerback who shouldnt be active on game day, there 3rd and 5th safety, and 1 linebacker who should be starting in the NFL is stupidity.   Dont even get me started on their pass rushers.   People here think Greg Rousseau is a great NFL player.   Its not the scheme.

You're right.  I retract that.  I had failed to look at the remaining schedules of the Colts and Phins.  Cincy is still a LONGSHOT to make the playoffs as of today.

Don't get me wrong.  Ravens scare me too.

The team that scares me most is the Buffalo Bills.

they can beat themselves easier than any other team can beat them, more so than any other team will beat themselves.

Cool, back to the injury excuse. First time that has shown up. I also suppose Beane is probably the only guy left who Sean could still throw under the bus at this point.

If the offense was missing Dion Dawkins, Spencer Brown, James Cook and Amari Cooper would they not get a pass?

Not sure what metric you are using for 7th ranked defense.   Seems like were 11th in points given up and in the bottom third in yards given up.

McD's defense has been getting a pass on normal injuries for years now. Just because posters like you want to create the idea that our injuries are somehow unique and excessive doesn't make that actually real. You have nothing factual to form an opinion that our injuries have been excessive or egregious outside of your desire to explain why our defense gets a free pass.
