If KC beats Pittsburgh on Wednesday that puts no. 1 seed out of reach and should all but lock up the 2 seed.  At that point, I think we rest a lot of guys, up to and including Josh Allen, who seems to be banged up.

Unless Baltimore loses on Christmas day we would still NEED to beat the Jets to lock up the 2nd seed.  I would go all out against the Jets, lock down the 2nd seed and use the last game as a rest & recover preseason contest.  Otherwise we might have to go to Baltimore in round 2 of the playoffs which would be a lot worse then playing them at home.

McDermott's presser had the same feel where he explained why Spector started ahead of Williams and one reason is that something like they didn't want to worn out either one. And he also mentioned developing young players, which sounded like Bishop, Elam might continue to play the next 2 games.

Funny, I thought McDermott said pretty much the exact opposite.

McDermott: "...Also, not really knowing, Baylon tweaked his calf on Thursday I believe it was, not really knowing if either of those guys would be available as well, and didn't want to overload either one of them so just trying to patch it together best we could there and applaud Dorian for going out there and being able to stay out there. So unfortunately again for Baylon with this calf and, just having one of those years it seems like.

Skurski:  How much of that was maybe playing it safe given where you are in the season and where you are in the standings versus they just weren't ready to go.

McDermott:  It's funny because we have those conversations with out training staff, it's like, "Hey, we're not holding anybody just because of this or that because every week it's tough. But certainly understanding already being in the playoffs, but you're also, you're trying to improve your football team overall, so, they just weren't ready overall, Jay, in answer to your question. But you're trying to get your team with some level of continuity so you can develop this player playing next to this player and then this player playing next to this player over here, and the symmetry, the connectivity of a defense. At the end of the day, those guys weren't ready to play. And that was from our medical staff.

You really believe that?

It's definitely a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation.  That's why winning today under the circumstances that we did was so important.

Agreed, in the end we needed that... it may allow us to sit players in week 18 if KC locks up 1 and we win.  But unless the Defense figures it out... we got problems.

I like to think that, especially today.

As a fan - after KC won yesterday, I was kind of like "what is there to play for?"

Team probably feels the same.

2nd seed. We can't drop games and still secure #2

yes we need a 1 more win or a Balt, Pitts loss.  We will know on Christmas day if Santa came or not.

The most dangerous game IMO is the season finale at Foxboro. It'll be very tough beating a divisional opponent twice in a short period of time. New England is gonna treat it as their Super Bowl and they'll be at home, armed with the lessons learned from today's loss.

Not sure it is a game the Bills care by the way things are going. Remember the Bills beat Jets by 3, Beat Miami by 3 in Buffalo after blowing out them in Miami. I think the Bills staff believe they know Pats, but is really after a QB change and HC change? It is kind of a surprise game for the Bills while Mayo knows the Bills offense intimately well.

If the Bills need the last game, I think it will be a blowout.

I have no doubt they're not going all out against the likes of the Patriots or Jets.  And I'm sure that if it were the playoffs most of the starters who were inactive would have played.

#2 seed is all but locked up.

I am pretty much shutting down until the playoffs.

The next two games will be like preseason.

All I want is a healthy team for the playoffs.   The next two games don't mean anything.

True, and the Texans have little or nothing to play for.

Texans can still get the 3rd seed (distinct possibility if the Chiefs and themselves win on Christmas day) - that is if that is important to them.

Listening to Josh's post game presser, I get the feeling they are not going to show their full hand the rest of the regular season - unless in a game where if they win they get the 1st seed kind of thing. Josh said as much.

Just seems like they have a strategy in place and health is as important as the wins the next 2 weeks. If they are only going to run plays they have shown, even against Jets and Patriots, it might be tough sledding.

I think this is partially correct.  They don’t want to put too much on tape but I also think yesterday they came out very flat.

Josh in particular seemed hellbent on hitting a deep shot rather than moving the sticks with shorter passes.  It reminded me of the Ken Dorsey offense.   Maybe they were trying to get ahead and then pull the starters early?

Either way, health is probably going to be more important than any win over the next two weeks.

I find it hard to believe teams go super vanilla on purpose but personnel wise we were definitely holding back at the very least.

Yeah I think you're right about personal. Josh said something about not showing everything they have. Whether that's true...idk.

The bills didn't give a crap about that game. It's not politically correct or coach speak but it's true.... They cared enough to get the win and not get injured.

I don't care about this game or the jets game as long as they win.

Another theory from the beer conversation between me and my buddy is that maybe they were trying some new downfield plays to see how it looked. Notice they targeted guys like Shakir, Coleman etc. on those plays, not exactly maximizing these guys strong traits. The real intention is to have guys like Cooper to be the main target but they want to see how defense react and what adjustment they need to add to those plays. Again I want to emphasize the word "beer" here.

I think there could be a lot of truth to this.  Would like to see Josh work with Cooper as well for the postseason.

I don’t buy it TBH, hope I’m wrong, but I see a 3rd round pick flushed down the toilet for half a season.   For as success as the team has been, I don’t think Brady could scheme a guy open if his life depended on it.

Milano hasn’t earned his right to sit and wait this year, he’s been brutally bad.  If he’s hurt, fine, but if not, he should be getting game reps.

First, he hasn’t been horrible as that is not true.  Second, he has a groin injury.  Whether you know it or not, he’s our best defensive player when healthy.  He’s not resting, he’s injured.  We also need him for the playoffs.  I don’t care if Williams plays for now if he’s healthy, but it was apparent, Spector is suited as the backup Mic LB, but not the Wil.  That requires more coverage in space.  That’s Milano’s Best asset.  His brain.

When we are facing the Broncos, or Chargers, then the Ravens or Steelers, we’ll need all of our best players.  Lastly, let me remind people Milano is a 1st team all pro.  That’s an honor.  Pro bowls and Top 100 are popularity contests.  MVP, 1st team all pros, OPOY, DPOY, and the ROY are all given to the best players by people who know football and vote.

Sunday’s game went as I expected.  The same should happen the next two weeks.  They’ll play the starters who can start, and in the 2nd half start pulling them so they are good for the playoffs.

Well know Wed. After the Chiefs game if they lose whether we go for it in week 18.

Should the Chiefs beat the Steelers this week the Bills can't get the #1 seed and the Chiefs will be able to rest for over two weeks considering they play on Christmas day. Should that happen I can see Buffalo sitting all their 1st string for the next two games.

They arent going to rest their starters for two weeks unless they are pretty banged up. They would be too rusty going into a playoff game.

You do agree they're resting their starters week 18 if they already have the 2 seed locked up , right?
