What did you think of Drake Maye?

The bills blitzed him and he really never cracked.   He was calm and mostly Delivered good balls.

Offseason conditioning and workouts are key in a player's success.  Maye may look better in May 2025.

He’s a rookie and therefore defenses don’t completely know his tendencies.   He is slightly above average and will have an up and down career until there is a better group of players around him.    I don’t see him as a starter in 5 years because the team he is on is that time line away from being relevant again.

he is above average and progressing - what you want to see from a rookie

 

dont see the crazy playmaking ability per se - but he’s going to be good for them and a challenge for us.  However - I’m not a fan of the organization anymore and feel it’s going to self destruct like Miami and jets do.

I think we are seeing now how important coaching is to player development. Josh Allen wouldn't be the play he is now without it. And now we see guys who were drafted in Allen's class like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who looked like busts playing well. Even Geno Smith looks good now.

Maye was a baller at UNC.  In college he had a lot of chunk runs/scrambles that I didn't think would translate to the pros.  I think he still has scramble ability, but don't think he is anywhere the running threat he was in college.  I think he'll end up being a decent QB - but I won't fear him or NE as long as we have Josh.  If anything I view it as tougher games for Jets/Fins which is a good thing - let those teams beat each other while we take the division

I thought Maye was very impressive and IMO the Pats will be the Bills biggest challenge in the AFC East over the next 5 years.

Baker got hosed by playing through a throwing shoulder injury and his performance suffered.  he would be more wealthy today if he had just sat.  But I give him credit and it looks like he will get his.  Jets are just a perennial dumpster fire.

I was impressed with his escapability but I would need to see him against a better defense than Buffalo is running out there right now. His talent means that we need to rebuild our D in a hurry.

If the Pats end up with the second overall pick, they will be in position to get a major draft haul from one of the many QB-needy teams.  They also have a lot of cap room.  They could get turned around in a hurry.
