The educational system is in trouble.

Stop making LAMP threads when perfectly fine threads exist that cover your statement.

Message board and thread creating is not exactly taught in school. They focus more about adapting in the real world.
This might explain why I'm in here and not actually doing something productive.

Granted 3/4’s of the secondary was out as well as Milano (who surely wasn’t 100% before being out for todays game)

but…

The defense has given up chunks of yards all year but not many points. Now they’re giving up chunks of yards and points.

If a team truly commits to running the ball against the Bills, they don’t have an answer for it, and it opens up so many other options.

When they aren’t getting gashed by the run, they aren’t generating any pass rush, which leaves an already depleted secondary in a really bad spot.

Bad teams can’t really expose that. Baltimore did it first. Then Houston, LA, Detroit and now New England.

tjis is going to be a problem in the playoffs

What exactly did New England expose?

We're used to teams having success running on us, but seeing average to below average QBs have their best days throwing on us is something we haven't typically seen in the McD era.

Lots has been said about the Dline but there are problems at all three levels. Bernard looks like JAG. Dorian > Milano. Spector is unplayable. Taron Johnson looks mortal now. Douglas/Benford/Ingram/Elam have given up plays all year. Our safety play has ranged from OK to downright bad.

Every time we plug a hole, a new one opens up. I thought Von was starting to come around. The last few weeks he's looked totally washed / ineffective. Oliver has his best game of the year (and first good game in weeks) vs. Lions, and then perhaps his worst game vs. Pats. There's no consistency.

Every team deals with injuries. The problem with this group is it isn't even sure what it does well.

It's not really hard to see the D issue.

  • D-line not stout against run
  • D-line cannot pressure the QB with 4 men front
  • Not enough speed in the secondary, especially safeties.

Result? If the opposing team can run and pass, it is extremely difficult for the Bills to defend. When the D-Line cannot control the middle, we bring LBs and safeties up and leave RBs to the sideline wide open --- forcing the DEs have to make great plays to hold their own and control the leakage. On occasion when we do get them to passing downs, the lack of speed shows up where we play deep in order not to give up big plays; that leaves a lot of space in the middle - especially when we have to blitz to bring pressure - and guys like TEs, Kupp etc. are eating us alive.

I don't think we can change scheme at this point. My only hope is that some guys rise up to play above the scheme - in superbowl history, you HAVE TO have those kind of guys in addition to Allen. Miller might be a candidate; I'm just hoping for he does that on some critical moments. Oliver, DaQuan flash at the right moment.

You seemed to miss the point of your opening statement: "Granted 3/4’s of the secondary was out as well as Milano . . ."

The one thing I can't figure out is why Spector would ever see the field.

We are not not "typically ... seeing average to below average QBs have their best days throwing on us."

This wasn't Maye's best day, he's had probably three better days in the last five weeks or so. The guys who looked terrific against us are Goff and Stafford most recently . They are very far from average to below average.

This was supposed to be a rebuild year and we're maybe seeing it recently, as the safety problem hits home and we weren't able to bring in a pass rusher to replace Floyd other than maybe our rookie pick who if he does turn out to be a good one will likely take a while, which you'd think he would as a mid-round edge.

Thought DaQuan wouldn't be a problem, though, and he's just not having a very good year.

I'll judge the bills defense in the playoffs.

But I'm predicting they are going to dominate in the playoffs.

I don't care about the Patriots in week 16. Neither do the bills regardless of what they say

Yes, but how many times when we're ragging on a contributor do we get the reply "well, that's what the 'voice to text' wrote!" 🤨

No way in hell an injured Milano would have fetched anything more than maybe a 6th.  The Roquan comparison is way off— only similarity was position.

He wasn't injured in the off-season......

My take is that we're a more flawed team than I'd like us to be heading into the playoffs. But that's just me as a fan wanting more guarantees - I think we have the kind of talent on defense that CAN rise up and play above themselves for key games, but it's impossible to say if they will when they need to.

Crazy to think that I was much more concerned about the O heading into the season.

We already had several threads about the defense, so that’s how we can tell this one apart.

IMO, Dorian Williams needs to be the starter for the rest of the year...this D is far more violent when he is out there. Reminds me a lot of the role Nigel Bradham used to play for us...when he hits you, you know you have been hit.

Dude going into the draft this year trading him woulda landed significant capital.

Kupp was NOT the problem....Puka Nuka was the issue......

Nonsense.

They've been damn good way past 2017. Right up to last year, when healthy.

This year, though, there's an issue, and it's real. Will it go away when we get healthy? Hard to say. Hope so. Can't be said for sure, either way.

But they need to bring in a serious pass rusher if at all possible next year. Last year with Floyd, they had a respectable rush. This year not so much yet.

Every playoff loss is us being uncontrollably lit up. Just defense on skates from start to finish. It doesn’t matter what you say. There is a percentage of bills fans that will just relentlessly defend the defense no matter what. The defense sucks. Any QB that is willing to be patient can have whatever they want on 3rd down. Any physical team runs us over. That’s how it’s been that’s how it is. We are almost always ahead because our QB Is an all time great. It makes teams predictable. When we force turnovers, we get teams in tough spots. We are front runners. We never force punts and we never set the time.  Every good offense has us on skates. If we aren’t turning ppl over, we aren’t stopping them. That’s relying on fluke BS. That’s the reality. But no matter how often it’s shown, some people just will refuse to see it. This defense has been the issue all along. And it’s NOT THE PLAYERS. It’s the scheme
