What is the value of a middle aged linebacker that didn't play for a season?  I'm sure that is what you got flack for.

Dude going into the draft this year trading him woulda landed significant capital.

Your all taking about now, I was way ahead of this.

Baltimore traded a second and a fifth for roquan.

Granted 3/4’s of the secondary was out as well as Milano (who surely wasn’t 100% before being out for todays game)

but…

The defense has given up chunks of yards all year but not many points. Now they’re giving up chunks of yards and points.

If a team truly commits to running the ball against the Bills, they don’t have an answer for it, and it opens up so many other options.

When they aren’t getting gashed by the run, they aren’t generating any pass rush, which leaves an already depleted secondary in a really bad spot.

Bad teams can’t really expose that. Baltimore did it first. Then Houston, LA, Detroit and now New England.

tjis is going to be a problem in the playoffs

Whelp …it’s who they are. Got 70 million in dead cap space and VM is the highest paid guy and he is not an impact player.

No way in hell an injured Milano would have fetched anything more than maybe a 6th.  The Roquan comparison is way off— only similarity was position.

At this point, the main thing is how can they cover the inefficiency of the D Line.

I'd say Bernard does not look like taking a step forward from last year. But it could be because D-Line is of no help. He's good, but not in great category.

I agree with Duffy that Dorian is better than Milano. The question is can Milano get back to his old self AGAIN this season.

My concern is i'm not sure dorians arm is ok either.  Might be kinda using both for the rest of the year.  Spector was an absolute liability in this one so some combination of williams/milano to hopefully keep one or both healthy might be in order.

I think the run defense does a decent enough job - i've been having more issues with our response to screen passes.  The rousseau play was great but more often than not these are easy chunk plays.  I think run wise we give up some chunks, but we also occasionally blow them up.  The defense that started the last 2 games definitely struggles on 3rd downs (Where is spector? throw it to the TE near him.  Where is elam? Throw deep, he's a penalty machine - etc.), but if that unit is healthier i like our ability to respond on some of these 3rd and longs.

It may be time for McD to reexamine his defensive strategy.  I get what he's trying to do - force teams into 3rd down and then get off the field with a stop.  But all to often early in the game this is not happening.  Maybe it would be better to take more risks on D which should lead to more negative plays and TO's and big TD plays being scored on the Bills. The net result will be the O getting more possessions and putting more pressure on the opponents D.

The fact remains though that what the Bills let NE do on offense early is what almost cost us this game and cost us the playoff game against the Bengal's. IMO this is the worst thing the D can do as it gives up TD's while the O stews on the sidelines.

I don't trust Milano anymore.  Healthy or not, he seems to have lost his burst. We need to roll with Bernard/ Williams the rest of the way. Need Rasul back asap to get Elam off the field. Then of course Rapp & Hamlin (ugh) will help shore things up some. This is by no means a Top 10 defense ready for the playoffs.  But if we can score offensively and get just enough stops/turnovers, we can hang with anybody. Alot of "ifs"....

He wasn't coming back to what he was, not after missing about 15 months due to severe injuries.  It's time to part ways this offseason.

Which itself could have been in the postgame thread

Too many obsessed thread starters impressed with their “unique insights and perspectives” falling over each other, as well wanting to see their names on the “big board” like it’s a marquee over a theater.

Chris Simms explained this in his analysis on the Rams game.

When the Bills play an offense with a determined run game and a QB with a power arm, any bit of offensive creativity their zone gets picked apart.

He said the Bills play death by 1,000 paper cuts against good teams.

It works against the Dolphins because they are a scheme dependent squad.

You know who’s washed?  Daquan Jones

What’s scary is having no one to fill in for him worth anything.

Luckily the Broncos run game is horrendous

But then Henry and well….that might be it.

Unless Josh goes nuclear.

Don't know if he's washed, it might be some kind of temporary issue. But yeah, he's not the guy he used to be, and it's really showing in the run game. And the pass game as well, really. But the rest of the line is mostly smaller guys. McDermott's D needs that 1-tech to force and eat double-teams.

DaQuan did it the past couple of years but he's not doing it at nearly as high a level this year.

No matter what you say it’s just people falling all over themselves to make excuse after excuse. The defense sucks. All you have to do is watch the games. 2017 we were good. Since then we are predictable and a liability

Nonsense.

They've been damn good way past 2017. Right up to last year, when healthy.

This year, though, there's an issue, and it's real. Will it go away when we get healthy? Hard to say. Hope so. Can't be said for sure, either way.

But they need to bring in a serious pass rusher if at all possible next year. Last year with Floyd, they had a respectable rush. This year not so much yet.
