I hear you but this is what I'll say:

Game against the rams the argument was. "Rams were on a heater, there's nothing we could have done as they are unstoppable when they are healthy ". They have had 1 TD in two games since that bills game

Then against Detroit the argument was: "Injuries and game script allowed Detroit to score a lot of points". To a certain degree yes, but 42 points given up is horrible in any circumstance and the offence  needed to keep scoring or they would have lost

And now I'm hearing the injury excuse from yesterday from others.

We got to stop making excuses for this defence and call a spade a spade -The bills defence has been pathetic the last 3 weeks

Yeah, like I said, not meant to be an excuse. They (Rams) gave us their best shot and our defense was not good enough to handle it. Their offense has not played at that same level of intensity since our game.  I am hoping that we can stop other teams "best shot" going forward, because that is all we will see in the playoffs.

But make no mistake, I agree that having to outscore other teams, because our defense can't stop their offense, is not a winning strategy in the playoffs.

This entire mess is on Bean's hands.  We have been scraping the bottom of the barrel for talent on D because he pissed it all away with some ridiculous contracts and also players they should have let go but decided to have them resigned.  Have you ever watched our corners play???  They cant even break up most pass plays on a consistent basis.  We have no dominant talent at all on this D in the secondary that makes impactful plays on a weekly basis.  They are so far off the ball they have no chance at covering the opposing RB,TE or WR's to keep them from getting 10 yards or more on most plays every time the other team passes the ball.  We have no speed at corner or S and FS.  The tackling on the field has been horrendous by all the players.  Every single good team in the playoffs will be a challenge for us to beat.  We will have to play almost perfect game when on offense to overcome this fiasco of a D that we have right now.

Watching this D play is a real OMG moment.  You can't believe you just saw that happen on the field, every possession of the ball by the opposing team is 50-50 crap shoot that it goes for big a play now.

I wonder about the inconsistencies on this defense. One week they crush the opponents running game, the next two weeks they get bashed. One week the pass rush and pressure is awesome, the next it disappears. That tells me the talent is there, so is it preparation or motivation?

I think a little of both. This week I think they held guys out and took the Pats too lightly. I'm also worried about the weather. I think we have a lot of guys on D that can't handle it. Thankfully I'm seeing 45 for Sunday. As far as coaching goes, I'm tired of coaches who can't evolve, be innovative or want to be ahead of the curve....specifically the McFrazier scheme.

It's always on one side or the other. We finally turned that corner on O starting with Dabol, but it seems like Frazier came back to coach D. The whole "try to get pressure with 4 is B.S and just grade school math unless you got the apostles up front.

Babich is a Grade B coordinator with a Grade B roster, and it shows. The D would probably rank #16 of the 32 teams.

The smashing success of Allen obscures the fact that the Bills are rebuilding this year, rebuilding the D at least.

We could have Buddy Ryan coaching the defense, wouldn’t matter if we are working with talent like this

My post was not just about this game. It's about the defence as a whole in 2024.

Spector has barely played this season.

And played exactly 0 defensive snaps against the rams 2 weeks ago when Sean Mcvay did laps around Babich and McDermott

I hate the delayed blitz, guy starts 6 yards from the line of scrimmage and usually arrives a step or two late.

And when you factor in the lack of restrooms at Highmark Stadium I’m guessing a bunch of the team just has to hold it until after the game. 😉

I remember there were some instances in games where a camera has caught a huddle on the sideline.  Madden had fun with it saying a player needed to whiz and the rest of them were blocking anyone from seeing it and of course he witnessed it while coaching

But it's who Beane and McDermott drafted for this defense.

Yep. And Spector has barely played this year.

Blaming our poor defence on the 4th linebacker on the depth chart who has played minimal snaps this year just wasn't a good argument IMO

All that money and picks on the dline and we still can’t consistently get pressure!

In fairness, Maye was getting the ball out very quickly…average of less than 2 seconds, and he showed excellent mobility.

this falls into line exactly with what i intended to post.

the coverage on the back end is so loose right now that qbs are able to get the ball off quickly.   which means at first glance

they have a player open and throw the ball.  this screws the D line because the oposing qb doesnt have to sit back there and

figure out where to go while someone forces him to do something he shouldnt.

the D fense was predicated on being able to get pressure on the qb while the backend can trick the qb into either throwing the

ball and making a mistake or holding it too long.   right now the back end cant hold up their end and its taking away from the effectiveness

of the D line.

No.

We were MISSING 4 STARTERS

In 2022, Leslie Frazier’s #2 ranked D went 13-3 missing the following players.

Micah Hyde - 15 games

Tre White - 11 games

Von Miller - 8 Games

Christian Benford - 7 games

Damar Hamlin - 5 games

Jordan Phillips - 4 games

Jordan Poyer - 4 Games

Gregory Rousseau - 3 Games

Tremain Edmunds - 2 Games

Ed Oliver - 2 Games

Daquan Jones - 1 Game (Bengals Playoff!)

Boogie Basham - 1 Game

Dane Jackson - 1 Game

Last year, Sean’s D folded in key moments against the Eagles, Bucs, Broncos, Pats, Giants, Chiefs. And 2 of those losses were partially the result of a mistimed blitz.

Bobby Babich is a big problem in my opinion...if I am McDermott, I've seen enough and I'm taking the play calls from him the rest of the year.

We should bring in that guy who has a history of running #1 ranked defenses. What's his name again... oh right... Leslie Frazier.

Leslie Frazier getting fired after having multiple top 3 defense looks insane now. Especially considering most of this board thinks Edmunds sucks as a MLB.

Babich is young so he gets another year but so many double standards on this board.

Hahaha. Frazier is better than Babich, but his defences always collapsed against good teams in the playoffs.

I wish McDermott was still the DC. I thought post eagles game last year, he had that defence playing amazing.

The D is 11th in pts/gm (mostly because of turnover ratio)

But where our pants are around our ankles is 25th in passing yards allowed/gm and 29th in 3rd down %.  Beane & McDermott have had since 2018 to build a dominant front 4.  And they have yet to do it.  Is Defense really McDermott's expertise???

Our crap DL has been the glaring problem since McD took over.  Sean and Beane have no one to blame but themselves.
