Draconator Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 (edited) A ton of my A's friends are posting about this. Nothing from the likes of ESPN, CNN, etc, but these rumors aren't going away, and nothing from Rickey's camp saying these are false. I hope these aren't true. Rickey was one of a kind. Edit: Now confirmed. Edited December 21, 2024 by Draconator 2 Quote
thenorthremembers Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Really hope this isn't true. One of my favorites of all time. Those As teams were part of my childhood. Quote
Draconator Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 Casey Pratt is a former Sports Reporter, now works in the Oakland Mayor's office. He confirms the rumors. Quote
Gugny Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 (edited) Of all the records Barry Bonds and his juiced up brotherhood destroyed in MLB, career walks was one of the saddest ones for me. Rickey Henderson made drawing a walk an art form and nobody was ever better at it. It is a lost art form and it’s what I will always think of first when thinking about Henderson. Draconator Posted December 21, 2024 Author Posted December 21, 2024 Dave Winfield now confirms it. Quote
stuvian Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Never liked baseball but I liked Ricky. I think he was on one of the Bluejays world series teams Quote
BADOLBILZ Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 This really surprises me. As in shape and self-involved as Rickey always came off I really would have figured him to live into his 90's or something. One of the 10 most talented players ever, IMO. Maybe even top 5. He left a lot on the table too. For those who don't follow baseball I would say he was like the Randy Moss of baseball. Quote

Beast Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 A man you just didn’t want to see on the basepaths with 1 out or less if he was wearing the enemy uniform. Quote
MarkyMannn Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Maybe last period I was a baseball fan, watching Yankees with Henderson, Winfield, Mattingly Quote

I was watching some TV show years ago about life in the minor leagues. This guy said he got called up once, to Toronto I think, faced one batter while Henderson was on first. Was specifically ordered to throw to first base before first pitch. He totally forgot and Henderson took off on him. That was the last batter that guy ever faced in Majors. 1 1 Quote
The Jokeman Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 My favorite player growing up. I was fortunate enough to finally meet him and shake his hand a few years at an autograph signing event. 3 Quote
