I picked up my daughter this morning in Midtown East, where she lives, to bring her plus her cat home for Christmas.  It was quite beautiful !

Well, we came to New York City for Christmas to spend it with some family. This morning, we woke up to 5 inches of snow on the ground, including the balcony of the relative's apartment we're staying in. Kids went nuts, made a snowman out there, filled the freezer with snow balls, just had a great time. Great morning.

Nice story; thanks Ray -- and Merry Xmas!

(But putting snowballs in the freezer? I take it your kids haven't spent a winter in WNY!  😀 )

They haven’t, which makes me sad. Someday if we move back they won’t need to do that anymore :)

I said, "You're a Bills fan?"

"Yeah. Converted about 7 years back."

Me: "From the Jets?" (Guy didn't seem like a Giants fan.)

""Yeah. Man, they're just awful. The owner sucks. It isn't fun to watch. "

I really don't like fairweather fans.  The one thing (and I really mean the one thing) I liked about The Drought was that it narrowed our fanbase down to the core.  Those Bills fans that kept coming out year after year despite not having anything to really celebrate - those are the guys and gals that I'm most proud of.  You all know who you are and I can't wait to be with you all when we reach the promised land!

I am wondering how many secular types will be raging about the Jests and Giants at the annual Festivus gatherings on Monday. 😁

Good thing the Jets and Giants aren't playing on Festivus.  The "feats of strength" would be far beyond them, and the "airing of grievances" would be nonstop.

I love that! Mine was running into Marv Levy on the sidewalk in Chicago near Buckingham Fountain. An unbelievably insane meet and I didn't have any Bills gear on.

What?  No Bills gear?  Unless you were at nudist colony, turn in your Mafia Membership card.

Yeah, I get that, but attracting new fans now should keep them on board in the dark days ahead.  (Hopefully far, far ahead.  But we're Bills fans so we know they're coming someday.)

I take the 2 year old on a walk at 7am, still snowing. Just beautiful, quiet, snowy morning in the city. Even the scraggly trees and huge piles of trash look beautiful covered in snow. We pass a garbage truck. My daughter's favorite thing to watch. Two massive guys were tossing huge black bags, piled twenty deep on the curb, into the truck from about ten feet away. The compactor was going, snow falling, bags popping with "garbage juice," as they call it. Kid was loving watching this, so we hung out for a couple minutes.

One the guys was about 6'8", a real hightower, his face resembled O'Cyrus Torrence. He looked over at us, and in a classic Brooklyn accent, called out: "You're wearing the right hat."

(I had my Bills winter hat on.)

Me: "I hear you."

"Man, I could talk about that for hours. But happy holidays! And go Bills!"

"Go Bills!"

Now, I was born and raised in Buffalo, and NYC natives over my four decades generally disdain everything about Buffalo. Now they're Bills fans.

Put a big smile on my face.

Anyway, merry Christmas and happy New Year to everyone here.

You paint a good picture. Entertaining read.  Have fun in the city.  Go Bills!

Aaron Rodgers = The Grinch

He bought a darkness retreat for his offensive linemen for a holiday gift, I heard.
