Allen is starting to become like Brady and Manning mentally, which is the biggest compliment that I think you could give him.

I can't quite go there yet. The absolute most important thing a QB can do is be able to read defenses. Look off safeties. Brady and Manning were the absolute best to ever do that.

They were like OC's on the field. And they both had good enough arm strength to compete in shootouts where needed too.

Cam Newton - 2015 MVP (age 26)

Cam 6-5 245

Josh 6-5 237 (currently age 28)

Cam 2015 - Car record 15-1; 296 Completions for 3837 yards (12.96 yards/catch) 35 TDs & 10 ints + 132 carries for 636 yards (4.82 yards/carry) & 10 TDs

Josh 2024 (YTD) - Bills Record 11-3; 275 Completions for 3395 yards (12.35 yards/catch) 25 tds & 5 ints + 91 carries for 484 yards (5.32 yards/carry) & 11 TDs

Josh projected - 334 completions for 4125 yards, 30 TDs & 6 ints + 111 carries for 591 yards & 13 Tds

I'd say those are very similar MVP caliber seasons by very similar players.  Josh has a higher completion % and Josh seems to actually getting better, while Cam's game began to deteriorate following his MVP campaign.  Cam remained a good QB for the next 3 years, but never got close to the MVP season again.  Josh is also the better QB and player, but the similarities and hard to ignore.

The physical attributes are similar, but Newton didn't have near the ability that Josh Allen has to dissect defenses and make off script plays when necessary.

He’s getting there though.. His brain is catching up with his arm.. He’s like 85% of the way there.

I would say a bigger, stronger and faster John Elway with a little Big Ben thrown in there. Fortunately for us, he's one of a kind and the NFL may never see anything like him again.

Yeah it's always been Elway to me.   Right down to the trajectory that they throw/threw the deep ball.   He didn't run for yardage nearly as much but that was a time when QB's could get destroyed running the ball past the LOS.

Randall Cunningham had a huge arm but that's about it as a passer.   Inaccurate, long windup, couldn't read a defense to save his life etc..  But he could throw those Russell Wilson moon balls.   They resuscitated his career in Minnesota with Randy Moss.  Allen can't really throw those.   Very different players, IMO.

Cam Newton was very similar to Josh as a runner but he never had the arm talent Allen has.   Not even at his best.

Not to mention Allen has better accuracy. Can read defenses a little better.

This is right.  Prime Cam Newton did not last long and Josh will have many more seasons on par with that.  They do similarly rare things but Josh is slightly to solidly better at almost all QB things.

Mahomes.

Josh gets a ton more yards downfield, but Mahomes is just as good moving in the pocket and is just as threatening at throwing the ball.

As many have correctly said, nobody, really, but I'd put Mahomes among the very closest.

My honest memory is that Randall Cunningham was similarly gifted physically to Allen (which is to say absolutely ELITE arm and athleticism), but his release IIRC was much more elongated, and he was more about post-snap reactions than pre-snap reads.

Cunningham’s biggest liability was Buddy Ryan.

Dominik Hasek. There has never been a more dominating player who literally carries his team than the Dominator. I know it's not an NFL comp, but he was the biggest star WNY has ever had in my opinion.

Steve Air McNair for style of play, toughness and leadership by example.  Neither were blue chip college QB prospects . Yes, Allen is bigger, stronger, faster, but I think there are similarities.
