Mr. WEO Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Yet the Giants are a much worse team. Mara must be sending Woody a huge Holiday gift basket for absorbing all of the stupid NFL owner heat for him and Tisch. 1 Quote

I just remember they tried to trade up with Pittsburgh, but it really wasn't going to happen. Dan Rooney wanted Ben, because he always regretted passing on Marino in '83. Cowher and Colbert wanted an OL, but Rooney convinced them otherwise. Donahoe might not have known Rooney wanted Ben, as it wasn't a consensus in the Steelers draft room until the end. I don't know if the Bills tried to trade up with Jax or Houston, who drafted at 9 and 10 that year. But Pitt wasn't trading down. https://steelersdepot.com/2017/04/friendly-reminder-dan-rooney-reason-pittsburgh-drafted-roethlisberger/ Quote

There's no doubt Douglas and Saleh deserve blame, but can you separate that from Johnson's meddling? Aaron Rodgers most likely played a strong role in getting Saleh fired. Douglas still has a job. Bad owners taint everything below them. Even if Johnson hires a top notch GM and coach odds are his meddling will mess it up. I mean that’s a pretty big “If.” Most GM’s probably would be successful if they found a QB. Like I said, there’s a lot of parralells to drought era Buffalo. The two big knocks on Douglas were his drafting of Meckhi Becton and Zach Wilson high in R1. Both were supposed to be their future cornerstones and failed miserably. You just can’t botch big picks like that and expect to stay employed. Quote
