The only SEC team in the final 4 will be a ref assisted one that needed a 4th and 13 to stay alive and a recent addition that SEC fans took pleasure in mocking for years.  And yet next year we’ll all get lectured about how the SEC is so superior that 6 of the 12 playoff teams should be SEC.  Lol.

Also……Michigan over Bama….Lol.

Meanwhile, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Penn State can play with either of these teams and has a great shot at making the CFP finals.

No doubt “Joe Pa” is smiling up from down below.

One of my buddies refs college games around Chicago (just earned his white hat!). He agreed with the no-call and said the key physical indicators were that the defender’s arms were out and his head was up, which together indicate an intent to make a legal tackle. The tipped ball and the receiver turning into the tackle were additional mitigating factors.

It’s Texas vs Penn State in championship game

I don't have the link, but Arizona State is contesting the final FG by them against Texas in regulation time.......although the FG was blocked, it actually hit the ground and bounced through the uprights, which is a legal kick for 3 points.

This one play would have changed the outcome for continuing into OT and Arizona State would have actually won the game.

...........we all know nothing will happen over this and it's a shame.

No, that's not true. From Rule 8, Article 1 in the official NCAA rule book:

“A field goal shall be scored if a scrimmage kick, which may be a drop kick or place kick, passes over the crossbar between the uprights of the receiving team’s goal before it touches a player of the kicking team or the ground.”

It cannot hit the ground and count as a FG.

ASU is not my favorite team; however, they played one hell of a game and i thought for sure they deserved to win it.

Apparently, ASU has found something in the Regs. that say it can.

I don't care either way, so........

Thanks for the targeting explanation, your buddy needs to hone his judgment.  The tipped ball isn't pertinent to the rule.

https://athlonsports.com/college/arizona-state-sun-devils/former-nfl-referee-breaks-silence-controversial-arizona-state-texas-targeting-call

He led with his helmet and did lower his head at the moment of contact as the picture in the article shows.

This rule is subject to interpretation, so I get what your friend is saying and I would say this was an ill timed tackle event that ended up targeting a still defenseless receiver.  It simply happened far too quickly to the catch attempt.

It should have been a targeting penalty with a flag but no disqualification.  The intent of the rule is to prohibit forcible contact to the head and protect the defenseless player from injury.  The defender had a sizeable runup and did not have good timing and technique for clearly avoidable helmet to helmet contact.  The receiver was still in the act of completing the catch despite starting to turn upfield.  So defender stays in the game because of the intent indicators but still a foul. He needed to learn from this.

As a PSU fan, they have a good path to the championship but until Franklin learns to make big boy decisions under pressure it seems academic at best.

I find Penn State and Notre Dane to be incredibly similar. I just think Notre Dane has something going for them since that NIU loss. Seems they came together and are playing great defense, Leonard can make plays when needed, and their run game is solid.

Im going to go Ohio State vs Notre Dame  in the final
