Bob Chandler's Hands Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 28 minutes ago, Fan in Chicago said: That's ballsy decision with Falcons still in playoff hunt. This ensures that Cousins won't have another employer in the NFL. Assuming the Falcons cut him in the off-season, Cousins will be able to get a high end back-up job, if he wants it. He has too much track record and credibility prior to this year and someone will think if he has another year gone after the last surgery he'd be the kind of guy who is good in the room and can come in and hold the fort for a few games. However with the money he's made, Cousins may not be up for that. We'll see. Quote

Who the hell is going to want that contract? They would literally have to trade assets to a team to take that. He also has a full no trade clause so why would he waive that when he can go pick his own team? Especially after Atlanta lied to him and drafted a QB 8th overall, which is why he chose to go there instead of back to Minnesota. Edited 4 hours ago by Big Turk Quote
frostbitmic Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Cousins would look good in Jets green next season. Quote

You can't say "any intention to get a 1st round QB" then talk about how 6 went in the first 12 picks. They had no guarantee that one of their top prospects would be there at #8. For all we know, Penix was their #3 QB on their board and when he fell, they had to get him. The reports out of ATL was that they completely fell in love with him pre-draft. Ultimately, it's working out for the Falcons. If they don't draft Penix, they have a 37 year old, declining Kirk Cousins under contract, another .500 record, and are poorly positioned to get another QB they may or may not even like in the upcoming draft. Today, they have a top 10 pick at QB who has been sitting and learning the system and hopefully is ready today. The way things played out, imo, strongly supports everything they did. Just like the Packers drafting Love, despite paying Rodgers. Obviously it depends if Penix works out, but they may make a lot of people look silly. Drafting a talented QB is never a bad move for a franchise. Obviously, we don't know how good Penix will be, but as you say, if he works out, then the Falcons absolutely did the right thing. Personally, I think he's going to be very good and will give them an immediate boost this year... Quote

Part of why the contract was structured the way it was. 27.5M base salary - 10M roster bonus that triggers on the 5th league day so i could see an acquiring team wanting that to come out of Atlanta's end. Atlanta eats 47.5 - split it over 2 years. That 27.5 base can have the cap hit moved around so the acquiring team can lessen the blow in year 1. I think teams with either plans for drafting a raw rookie, or teams with players on rookie contracts can do a lot worse. He probably came back too quickly from the achilles injury, and would look a lot less stiff once in better shape. Previously worked with Stefanski (who i think deserves a mulligan for this watson debacle, but we'll see if he's scapegoated). Whereven Kubiak/dennison potentially ends up could also have interest in bringing in a QB they worked with in the past. Quote
