the game is easier for QBs today. If you watched back in the day you would know that

That’s not the point.  Jim Kelly didn’t have the arm strength or the mobility to be much more than a backup today

1. Allen

2. Mahomes

3. Burrow

4. Herbert

5. Jackson

6. Stafford

7. Wilson

8. Kelly

I loathe interceptions. I have Kelly 8th. Kelly threw 175 INTs in 11 seasons compared to 237 TDs. Russell Wilson has 109 INT in 13 seasons. Stafford has 187 INT but in 16 seasons and a near 2:1 TD/INT ratio and far far more yards

Rodgers in his prime but not now

Tua is more accurate but Kelly was better QB

Dak is more prolific but Kelly was still better

Jayden Daniels is amazing but not quite there yet...

Purdy is a system guy.

Never liked Kirk Cousins

Baker is an interesting comparison. Both gunslingers. Both threw a lot of INTs. Kelly had more success with better teams. Kelly is still better but when Baker is on he is very good.

More to a QB than statistics, I know you guys love statististics but Kelly had a toughness, with the exception of Josh, not found today!

And does Stafford or Goff have great mobility? Or Brady or Manning?

Kelly was 6’3 220lbs in his prime, which is ideal height with a very good arm.. Had the heart of a lion with great mental faculties. How is he not a top 10 QB at the very least?

That is fair, but toughness is far from the top criteria for a QB today.

Accuracy, intelligence, pocket awareness, situational awareness, arm strength, escapability, and running talent are more important. Kelly had many of those qualities too.

Cmon man that is a bit ridiculous.  He had plenty of arm strength and was a better deep ball thrower than Allen is today.

Marino had zero mobility and if he played today he would blow away any of these current QBs even Brady.

Great question. Even better if we can factor the other 2 from that ‘83 draft. That’s another thread though.

Very tough where to place him. I can see how one can make an argument for anywhere between 3-10. The only 2 he doesn’t go ahead of are Mahomes and Josh.

Personally, I put him in that 4-7 range. The third place goes to Burrow/Lamar.

he said HOFer Jim Kelly is a backup today. You really think that deserves a rebuttal?

Well, the part about being a backup today was not in his first post, which I was referring to. But it is a reasonable point and he gave a reasonable post to support his views.

Not saying I agree Kelly would have been a backup today because his playing style would also have changed in light of the better info and training available, as well as his desire to compete with his peers, but he wouldn't be top five either, IMO. It's a hard question to answer.

No its not, toughness is throwing interceptions than throwing TD's to win a game. It's taking a hit, standing up and winning a game!

Marino is another one, easily top 5.

Against today’s QB’s today or todays QB’s in their primes?

For the first, i have these guys ahead of Kelly in no particular order:

Allen

Mahomes

Burrow

Lamar

Love

Stafford

Herbert

He would slot in right around 8-10 with Baker/Goff/Hurts.

This is about how I feel.  8-12 range.

You just can’t compare TD/INT’s from today’s QB’s to 30 plus years ago. Back then, QB’s and WR’s got punished. A much different game that led to the numbers being what they were.
