He’s an attention seeker.

THIS. When he limped off, as he always does, he comes back as if he was never injured. It's all an act and he does it better than any of the commercials he stars in.

Except they put Patrick at risk if don't earn the bye being the number 1 seed.

Ehh if that wildcard matchup is in doubt then they ain’t winning anything anyway.  I’d trade potentially losing the team bye week 1 of the playoffs for three potential weeks off for mahomes and avoiding one of the ravens/bills if I was them assuming he’s actually got a legitimately serious injury.  If it’s something that’s not gonna get worse then throw him in there

Yep. He practiced in full today.

I would be shocked if he didn't play Saturday

Had to be a walkthrough right?  I’m sure a bunch of people have said this already but I’m reading these in order so apologies in advance 😂

There is a national narrative that Mahomes' high ankle is the just same injury he suffered vs. Jags in divisional two years ago, a game to which he returned. It is not. This injury is more serious. And yet, the Chiefs are reluctant to announce they'll sit Mahomes. They will maintain their pursuit of the one-seed is the reason.

But the real reason the Chiefs fear sitting Mahomes is exposing to the league precisely what they are without him. KC has developed a mystique in its dynasty. This mystique keeps them atop power rankings. With the preponderance of one-score games won, this mystique gives the impression that KC pours out just enough rocket sauce to win...but has vast stores of it when needed. We hear how great the team is, with Mahomes having a rather low to middling season, yet so many wins.

We constantly hear how the Bills are carried by JA17 and would be mediocre or less without him. Well, that's correct as it's a QB league.

I submit KC has been carried by Mahomes and his absence will demonstrate how average the team actually is. And that's the last thing the mystique-riding Chefs want to become public.

Mahomes exaggerated injuries.  He’ll be hopping around on one foot and crying in pain and then back 5 plays later.

He’ll be fine the rest of the season

LMAO

Mediocre QBs could probably do fine in Brady’s offense, and with that protection. Mediocre QBs would do nothing with the protection Mahomes has had so far.

He won a SB on one leg, with poor WRs and tackles. I don’t think he cares if pundits have short memories.

This touched on a few fun ongoing bills fans vs bills fans debates haha I think a mediocre qb would be terrible on either team personally.  Josh is making the pass blocking look a lot better than it is, I think it’s ok but nothing particularly special.  The run blocking has been pretty legit though but that’s pretty easy for a defense to load up against if the qb is just average

its harder for mahomes to make the pass blocking look better than it is because the tackles are bad and the strength is in the interior.  Teams just seem like they don’t have a whole lot of trouble collapsing the pocket while clogging up the middle of the field and limiting his options

How many seasons running is this now that Mahomes has an ankle or foot ouchy just before the playoffs?

He isn't sitting.  He will play just fine on it.   It will just become more folklore ammunition for Collinsworth to suds up during the  tongue bath.

I hope you've realized that Collinsworth's schtick is hyping every single player that he covers.

And you can easily make the case that Mahomes has outplayed Allen in every playoff game.

In a vacuum these dudes are crazy close statistically it’s honestly kind of freaky haha

afc championship mahomes was definitely objectively better obviously.  The next two games were crazy close.  OT game pretty much the only statistical difference was the extra OT drive for mahomes.

Last year mahomes was probably a little better on paper but that bills defense rolling with aj klein due to a crazy amount of LB injuries was probably a much easier path. I’m all for the ‘find a way to win’ attitude when you’re talkin about just playoff wins but if you’re comparing qb performances I feel like that sort of stuff is relevant

Just cuz they win anyway doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting him to be fair.  This year they built up a pretty decent cushion hanging on in those games so they’ve at least got the option to sit him should they want it.

Don't be fooled.

Mahomo is going to come back and pull a Michael Jordan with the flu performance

...or a Paul Pierce coming out of the tunnel in a wheelchair.  Then ready to play 10 minutes later.

I like the way you think.  I'd love the Chiefs to be "exposed" without Mahomes.  I don't think it's realistic.  Any team is going to fear sitting their QB, and the better the QB, the bigger the fear.  Of course, the Chiefs fear sitting Mahomes, why wouldn't they fear sitting their top QB?

But the league - the people who dissect film for a living - understand that the Chiefs are less "The Patrick Mahomes Show" this season (and last) than they were earlier in his career, and I wouldn't expect them to fold like a cheap lawn chair if Mahomes can't go.  Points:

-Andy Reid is one of the best coaches in the business. He got the best play of his career out of Alex Smith.  He got good QB play from Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick.  If anyone can tool a scheme to succeed with a given QB, even Carson Wentz, Reid is that guy.

-Right now, the Chiefs have the #5 D on points and yards given up.   Their D has been keeping them in games and winning close games for them.

-Their offense is only OK.  It's like 12th in the league for points and 14th for yards.  They're running on 5.8 NY/A passing, which is 21st in the league, or something like that.  They're "meh" for completion percentage and pass yards per game.  What they are, is balanced, passing and rushing making about the same contribution.

There's definitely more to the Chiefs than Paddy Mahomes.

What they will lose if Mahomes sits, is that extra layer of belief in their own invincibility and ability to come from behind - the confidence that if things look grim, Mahomes the Grim Reaper will cut the opponent down to size and pull off the improbable victory.

What do you expect him to say. He wants to play and will say anything to not sit.

I want him to play.  Texans have a fierce pass rush.  Clobber Mahomes.  And Pittsburgh beat him up again on Christmas

Anyone who has played football has had a high ankle sprain and they tape you up and you barely feel it.

He will play. It's a non story. He might be slightly less mobile. He will be numbed up on pain meds.

Reid really is one of the best coaches in the business.

But he got good QB play from Donovan McNabb because Donovan McNabb was a very good QB. Same with Vick as well, he was a good QB, though far more dangerous as a runner than a passer, but he was tough to play against. And by the end of his career, after they stopped running him through the cement grinder with a new OC every year, so was Alex Smith, till the injury anyway.

Did he make them better? Probably, he's a damn good coach and particularly so on offense. But those three were good. Vick least so, but still scary when young and athletic, but it's true his most dangerous year was that one year when Reid got him to start thinking like a passing QB rather than a running QB. But it only lasted a year, even though Reid was still there Vick just couldn't maintain that level.

Agreed there's more to the Chiefs than Mahomes but without him (no, I don't think they'll be without him for much time if any, but ...) they're a decent team not a deeply dangerous team. Same with us without Allen, same as just about any team losing an elite QB.

I feel like their oline was a lot better back then.  Chiefs current situation if mahomes is playing through even a mild injury the risk he hurts something else/aggravates it worse is pretty high.  He’s not going 60 minutes without defenders getting near him anymore and the three defenses he’s seeing in a row could all do some damage

texans seem pretty dirty too.  Pit will hit him hard but I haven’t really noticed too much dirtiness from them

They also have a game to lose in the race for the #1 seed, so sitting Mahomes against the Texans makes real sense.   The Texans have a mean defense -- they are one of the leaders in rushing the passer I think -- so it's really risky to put a gimpy QB out there against them.  Giving Mahomes 2 weeks makes him much more likely to play well in the final two games.
