Detroit probably didn't make the cut for most. 

If you're a Buffalonian, it's like "why go to Detroit, when we have a perfectly good Detroit at home?"

 

It’s funny, but we have a very well regarded architect in our neighborhood. He’s done some of the finest homes in Atlanta in some of the most prestigious areas, but he takes on projects all over the place. My wife had him come look at our kitchen to redesign. He was kind enough to come and  take a look and give us a plan. When he left I explained to my wife she just asked Renoir to come over and paint our bathroom. 

 

As he walked around the rest of the house he noticed my Bills stuff in the man cave. He said his wife was going on a beach vacation with people, but he’s not a beach guy, so he was going to Buffalo for an architectural visit. About 48 hours later I was getting pics of wings and beer. I mentioned the pizza is special too, and 20 seconds later I had a pic of a slice. 

 

ANYWAY…. It turns out one of his projects at the time was an amazing place in Detroit. He said it was the grandest property built there in the last century. I hope it’s true and they are going in the right direction, not just some idiot Piston in a rush to file bankruptcy.

Have been looking for your write up of Sunday afternoon, and it’s finally here. I love your storytelling and every time you have an analysis, I feel pleased that you’ve written with great clarity and rich embellishments what you experienced. I hope for those of us at a certain age who still hold hope, after years and years of disappointment, that maybe, finally, this is the year. A year of magical thinking, maybe, but with the football gods aligning with us, perhaps our Bills will greet the promised land. Please, oh please, during these fractious times, may there be resounding joy in dear Buffalo. Go Bills, please, in our lifetime and yours, with the amazing talent and team unity of ‘24-‘25. Josh is our beacon this year.

Sunday morning, my wife and I and a friend headed out to Hitsville, USA, the Motown Museum. It was a great visit. They give a nice tour and tell the whole history of Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, and all those incredible groups that came out of these two small old houses in Detroit, old houses and streets that look so much like Buffalo.

 

On one wall they had a plaque honoring donors to their annual campaign and to the capital campaign to support the construction of a new museum building. Near the very top of the list, where the biggest donors could be found, was the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. A good, good man.

 

 

My wife and I went to the Detroit Institute of Art, which is an extraordinary museum. On their main donor wall, the second highest category was donors who had given over $10 million in the past several years. There were four or five names in that category, including the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, right there with this Ford and that Ford. 

 

Really extraordinary generosity.

There is a certain charm and uniqueness to the architecture in blue collar, rust belt type cities like Detroit and Buffalo.

In fact, one of the most underrated aspects of the city of Buffalo (and nearby Rochester) is its architecture. You don't necessarily realize it growing up. You don't sense that it's unique, and you take it for granted. But then, leaving western new york and going around the rest of the country, it dawns on you: Huh, some of that architecture from the city I grew up in is actually pretty special!

you and others are pretty salty over the defensive efforts in games where the Rams and Lions ran up the scores on us. I know it isn't ideal.

 

But what posts like these do is neglect to mention the calibre of the teams the Bills played and giving their offense zero credit for producing. Goff was throwing dimes on about every pass for starters. In the Detroit game yes our D had some lapses too.

 

I just want to say it isn't all just "our defense sucked" maybe the opponent just played very well. They get zero props though

Our defense was missing 3 starters Hamlin, Douglas, Rapp - who were inactive, Going into the game they were #1,2,&4 on the defense in terms of snaps played.  Milano went out during the game, was replaced by Williams, who was replaced by Spector, just off IR; then we lost Bishop during the game.  In the fourth quarter, we had Benford, Taron Johnson, and Bernard of our usual back 7 available.  We were playing a 36 yr old safety from the practice squad in the 4th qtr.  Might have something to do with how well our opponent played.

clearly Yes. and hence why I get a bit put off by the rhetoric I read here of  our Defensive woes. It is what it is. We have no choice but to watch and see how coaches perform with who they have available. and of course how the player plays forced into his new role in games This is nothing new. If winning football games were so easily achieved more teams would go undefeated. NEWSFLASH they don't. for many reasons

Salty? No…. I was just reacting to the OPs comment that everyone on the team just ‘does their job’. I’m not sure whether it’s personnel, scheme, or both but I do know there are significant shortcomings with the D right now.
