I haven't looked, but passing yards aren't correlated with winning, so I dunno if passing TDs are.  I mean, Goff just threw 5 passing TDs vs the Bills, and .... lost?  Josh threw 3 vs the Rams and.... lost?

 

 

 

Agreed. I was just marveling that Lamar has at least six 5 TD games, when to my eye, Josh is clearly the superior passer.

I think there is some truth about them letting up. It's one of the reasons I remain nervous about games against good opponents. Lions game was one of them. Yeah we had injuries but the defense sure did give up a lot of points in the 4th to the tune of an anxiety riddled onsides kick.

Yes, January 15th 2022 vs NWE in a 47-17 playoff game.  84% completion for 308 yds, 5 passing TDs, 0 INT, and 6 rushes for 66 yds.

 

Do the Ravens think it doesn't count because it was in the playoffs against a 10-7 team coached by Bill Belicheck, instead of against a 2-12 Giants team that jettisoned their former 1st round QB a few weeks back and is visibly tanking?

It's weird. They get up three scores and then move both safeties back 25 yards, and it backfires. The other team gets to move into into the red zone in less than 2 minutes, or even worse, a speed WR catches an intermediate pass with tons of space and accelerates past every one.

 

It's like the fear causes the thing they're afraid of to happen.

For the people that like to crap on the WGR guys and I’ll agree with that afternoon crew, Jeremy and Joe called this point this morning.  Lamar can’t hold Allen’s water.  He’s a good QB, but he’s not even close to the same stratosphere as Josh, Mahomes or Burrow.

 

It’s a pr ridiculous game to get him the previous MVP.  Josh has been better than him since they both entered the league.  I’ll grant you in 2018, Lamar played better, Josh caught up in 19, and never looked back.  If Josh doesn’t win the MVP, SB MVP, amd the SB, Ill be shocked this year.

 

We will finish 14-3, and probably can rest some starters in the 2nd half of the next three games.  We can beat the Cheats and Jests in our sleep.  Sorry, Oats, no 55 yard wins this Sunday.  It will be cold, but Josh likes the cold as evidenced by one of the coldest Bills games in history against oh yeah, the Cheats.

Lamar won MVP last year, Josh will probably win this year. Josh had the better statistical year last year, Lamar is having the better statistical year this year. I guess it all balances out.

 

It's actually pretty amazing how even their stats are across the two seasons thus far (outside of Josh having a sizable edge in TDs).

 

2023/2024 seasons combined

Lamar: 8,822 Total Yards   66 Total TDs   10 INTs   20 Fumbles   67.6% comp.   QB Rate: 111.7   QBR: 70.35   4th Q Comeback: 2   Game win drives: 2

Josh:    8,716 Total Yards   81 Total TDs   23 INTs   12 Fumbles   65.6% comp.   QB Rate: 97.85   QBR: 74.45   4th Q Comeback: 2   Game win drives: 4

 

Just for reference:

Mahomes: 7,531 Total Yards   50 Total TDs   25 INTs   7 Fumbles   67% comp.   QB Rate: 91.8   QBR: 63.55   4th Q comeback: 6   Game win drive: 7

 

Mahomes is behind the other two in almost every statistical category, except the 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives. But, I guess that is what makes Mahomes, Mahomes. Though he's probably had many more opportunities than the other two over the last two seasons also, with as many close games as the Chiefs have played.

 

 

I'll taut Josh over Lamar every day when it comes to MVP talk, or who you'd rather have as your QB, but it is pretty amazing that these two guys, who were the most doubted and ridiculed QBs in their draft class, are now tops in the league. Big props to both guys. And we're just lucky to be around to see it.

Their is precedent for giving an MVP with 22 int. It was Kurt Warner, Warner also had 26 total turnovers....

 

There is no precedent to get MVP and not be top ten in passing yds or passing touchdowns 

 

There is also no precedent for getting a second MVP until you win a super bowl....

 

Also if you took the difference in turnovers (9 last year ), magically turned them into tds for Lamar, Allen still had more tds.... Lol

I get the whole "regular season" thing after the fact, but if you clearly created a graphic that includes "in NFL History", you might as well just admit you made a mistake and your research dept. half assed it.

The only reason to separate regular and post season accomplishments is to standardize volume stats.  Something that happens over the course of a single game, there’s no meaningful difference.

I'm fine with rivalries.  But I wish opposing fans could show some respect, and not always try to put down the other guy's QB in an attempt to make their own guy look good.  Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are all fantastic players, fun to watch, and on a HOF career trajectory.

 

Jackson is having a great season.  But simply on the basis of consistency, he is not the league MVP in 2024.

Just last year, he won the award... despite being outside the Top 10 in most passing statistical categories.  The reasoning was because of his team's record, and his performance in the biggest games of the regular season -- most notably the 49ers on Christmas Day.

 

Based on the consistent standards MVP voters have set for the award, Allen deserves it this year.
