He's still making some mistakes but his game is improving, most notably his reaction time.  Some players may develop in a linear sloped fashion but many are more parabolic in nature.  And Cole may be at the edge of that parabolic swing, we just don't know.  The fact remains he is one of our top backups and we may have no choice in using him during the playoffs.  This snap time is also invaluable for getting him ready for next year.

NFL game pace and decision making aren't easily simulated in the practice environment.

Agree about your biggest concern, but I'll trust the coaches.  Just keep developing our best (game-changing) talent ASAP.  Every year is a Superbowl year with Josh Allen.

During the Bengals game yesterday, a reporter said to Burrow that he seems to be playing the best ball of his career.  Burrow said that the game has slowed down considerably for him.  I thought that was interesting considering it's his 5th season.

I think that was true for Josh last season, especially after Brady took over.

My God Bishop was bad today. Wrong angles in run support. Late to recognise plays in the short passing game. Beaten for the Conkin TD. He is a loooong way off ready.

I never thought I'd say this.... we need Damar Hamlin back.

Yeah I just had the same comment in post game thread. Bishop's play is the only negative today. Unfortunately, he is not getting better so far.

Spending a second rounder on a safety is already bad but desperately needing safety help right away, I can grin and bear it.

That safety being nowhere close is just brutal.

He made some good hits, think the problem is he's better suited for strong safety.  Maybe they could trade Rapp and sign a free agent FS??

On other hand many players make marked improvement from year 1 to year 2 so who knows??  When you factor in he missed most of training camp, it could just as easily happen.  As McD said early on, safety in the Bills defense takes time to learn.

He's really struggling to adjust to the speed he's seeing out there; it does not look like Utah.

I think he'll get the timing and angles down eventually but it's an adventure right now.

I hope he plays 60:00 next week too; the more the better.

Plus the Bills can then play coy about who's starting the first playoff game.

I know Bishop was more of a raw project out of college but jeez. He’s very poor with his play recognition. I hope Hyde can help him out, because he was very bad today.

I haven't given up hope for Elam and have argued in favor of him getting as much PT as possible.

I too wonder about how someone with so much raw ability can still struggle with his job and this makes me question the coaching.

That said, he was coached last year by John Butler and this year by Jahmile Addae.

You'd think with a fresh start that the light might finally come on for him.

Personally I think he's too tightly wound and that he would play better if he dialed it down a bit.

tightly wound  ? as in anxious and overthinking ?

Good point about a reset with Addae .  Under realized shift in the secondary Coaching. Thanks

I don’t want to see Bishop again until he is a Cardinal

My counter to that is

Today was the perfect opportunity to get him some tape to work off of. Sure did not expect a bad day so much as a learning day. Thats okay though.

He's young and McD runs a complicated defense that needs strong communication pre snap to adjust

Only get that from live fire.

Today was the day against jests whom defense just obliterated. Next week too

I was worried about Bishop as a prospect and he's not making those concerns go away. His mental game looks a long way off.

This coaching staff gets the benefit of the doubt for DBs but sheesh. A second round pick on a safety really ought to pan out. Here's hoping for a major leap forward for Bishop.

Yeah … just an attempt at poor humour there … play him next week by all means …

It's Bishop's first year.  Bernard didn't look amazing his first year either.  Actually Rapp wasn't looking that hot most of last year either but has settled in well this year.  I'm actually surprised Ingram doesn't get some work there with his size and the amount of plays he made the first few weeks of the season.  I have to think they are purposely trying to get Bishop some work and hopefully it pays off going forward.

Have hope Roundy. Gotta get the game exp when playing in this defense it seems. Lotta shifts/ changes occur before the ball is snapped.

Handing off coverage was a weaker point today. Miscommunication ?

Thats what the youth needs to get under the belt regardless of position generally speaking. its fast and not college speed

Absolutely. I hope he can turn it around because he looked like a decent prospect during his time with the Utes.

Hamlin, for all his problems and deficiencies, needs to get back by the playoffs.

Be interesting to consider who on the Bills etc makes the jump second and or third years.

It's a Coaching thing. We have discussed here much about McD brings them along slowly. Whether true or not

I think this Bills Team has had some slow learners playing pretty well second and third year. And some 4th year players might be hard to keep :(
