This Elam topic just baffles me

st brown had a gazillion yards!!!!  There was nothing positive from that pass defense to take away other than….we noticeably had starters out

In other words, Bishop is not playing free at the moment, which is understandable at this stage of her NFL career.

I think we’re still in the “on-ramp” stage of his career…

Elam, yes. Bishop, not yet sold.

I understand the trepidation with Bishop, but I think he needs some playing time to progress. The next 3 games could be a great opportunity to give him some, so that he is better prepared if his number is called in the playoffs.

Worked by who?

LaPorta and St. Brown put up 304 yards between the 2 of them. He was mostly matched up with Tim Patrick and Williams

If anyone got worked it was Taron, no?

Cam Lewis was brutal…again.

I get it UB guy, work ethic, special teams, improved, process guy etc. but he is one of if not my least favorite player to see on the field for the defense. He gets targeted and abused constantly.

He was terrible to start the season, had a couple of games where he was decent and now he sucks again.

When did he have that value? And if he did, why would they have traded him?

Because from the very beginning he was buried on the depth chart behind a 6th rd Benford, and dismissed in Sean’s doghouse.

Not enough on field playing time to answer honestly. It was only one game. Douglas has been excellent so hopefully he'll be back soon. I like Bishop, but like I said, I need to see more of him.

Douglas was close to excellent last year. This year he's been OK at best.

I don't think it would've been much better if Rapp, Douglas and Hamlin were playing ... See last week vs Rams.

It's Josh Allen's fault, he scores too much, too quick.

He was 4 from 4 for 36 against Elam. Which isn't nothing, but it wasn't where he ate. He ate by Ben Johnson getting him matched up on linebackers - primarily Bernard who he destroyed.

He is actually decent in the dime role. That is the common denominator. When he was struggling early in the year he was playing nickel and then this week he was playing safety. I think when he is out there as a regular piece of the D teams can work out how the Bills are using him and then find a matchup they like against him. That's much harder when he is playing just in spots as a dime. And he has made some plays in that role.

Man, I don't know.  Very tough to tell from TV.  I like all of Ingram, Lewis, Bishop & Elam.  And Jackson and Hyde.  I think we have amazing secondary depth and trust McD who sees them practice everyday and studies the All-22 to decide who starts.  I hope Bishop gets over the hump, but he is more of a strong than a free and I think Rapp has been very good.

This is on Lewis. He's another one that knows what is going on in the scheme but lacking physical tools which amounts to be a backup. Mind you this is already a huge achievement for the young man.

On the St Brown long TD that I saw on TV (not all-22), I thought it's not Bishop's responsibility. It was a nice pass from Goff that just over the finger tips of Bernard (how many times we saw Allen did that against zone defense, just out of the reach of underneath LBs into a hole for his receivers?). Lewis is the safety of the last line of defense on that play and he needs to make the tackle. Sorry to say that I think Hamlin, people think the weakest starter of the whole Bills team, would make the play if he were on the field.

With both Douglas/Hamlin both in contract years this year (i think) and highly unlikely to be resigned, Elam/Bishop will both be starters next season.

 I can wait.

trust the process.

Yea the St Brown play is a great play by the QB and WR and Lewis taking a bad angle coming up from safety. It isn't on Bishop. Bishop got beat deep by Williams on a ball that should have been caught, albeit it was coming back for an OL hold in any event.

Not a comment on his overall performance at CB, but I thought Elam's role in the fumble recovery was undervalued. Hustled to the loose ball really quickly and played a key part in it getting into Milano's hands.

I still think it is special teams that is giving him the nod in nickel. A bit of a reward for buying into the process. Which I don't hate at a high level.

But, when Taron was went down last week, Ingram was the call up and I thought played well in his limited snaps at the end of the game. Better than Taron did against Puka (via eye test).

In general there have been so many weird usages of players over the years. Constantly marching Lewis out there is one of them. I think Elam flashes in his limited snaps (not dressing him is insane to me). Amari Cooper at 45% this week seems wild. The unwillingness to put Dorian Williams back out there. I certainly trust the staff, overall they have been really good, but it seems so strange sometimes.

I thought Bishop looked really good in run support, but still needs some work in coverage for sure. But his athleticism is a huge upgrade on what we typically have out there. Elam I thought was okay. He's like an enigma miscast in this defensive scheme.

Bishop is 100% the guy next year. I let both Hamlin and Douglas walk in the off-season.
