transplantbillsfan Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I understand that after a game where Goff throws for nearly 500 yards this seems like a ridiculous question--and maybe it is. Personally, I thought our secondary just looked so much faster yesterday than all season. Obviously Bishop and Elam are a big influence there. But aside from speed, I thought they played pretty well as the game began in particular. Elam was only targeted a couple times in the first half and even though St. Brown got a couple catches there Elam tackled him for very short gains. Bishop gave up a longer pass to St. Brown, but soon after Goff threw a bomb to Williams who looked like he kinda torched Bishop at first and then it seemed at first he just dropped the ball, but after watching a few times it looks like Bishop's athleticisms helped him to recover enough to get a hand in there and maybe break up the pass. In the first half, Goff was 11/20 for 2 TDs and 161 yards, but he was 2/4 for 15 yards in the 1st quarter and was sacked twice and then the Bills were up 14 points. One of those 2 completions was on a 2nd and 18 dumpoff to St. Brown where Elam was right there and tackled him for a short 5 yard gain. After that point it just felt like our D knew how inevitable Allen and the offense were so it was fine to let the Lions become one dimensional and play them the way they did. Even with all the completions and yards for Goff, there were still a lot of plays where the defenders were close to making a negative play. 1 Quote
Marv Levy Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Not enough on field playing time to answer honestly. It was only one game. Douglas has been excellent so hopefully he'll be back soon. I like Bishop, but like I said, I need to see more of him. 3 1 Quote
Generic_Bills_Fan Posted December 16 Posted December 16 (edited) Elam for Douglas matchup wise the way this season has been going I can get behind, I’m not so sure about bishop for Hamlin yet. Douglas was great last year and this year has seemed pretty mediocre to me. Maybe he can get it switched back on though Edited December 16 by Generic_Bills_Fan 2 5 Quote
Comebackkid Posted December 16 Posted December 16 im really rooting for Bishop. i think if he can get his head around everything his athleticism will pay dividends. He was punching pretty good at the ball on one play i seen. Kiar would be nice... he does have some speed Quote
Doc Brown Posted December 16 Posted December 16 We just let a guy with tiny hands throw for almost 500 yards on us. NO!!!! 2 8 Quote

Buffalo_Stampede Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I thought Elam was getting worked. Bishop is a big play waiting to happen for the opponents offense. 1 3 Quote

Man, for all the hate I see Damar, Elam, Lewis and other guys from the secondary how is he getting a pass to the level of that quality? There’s been a couple games he’s been absolutely brutal to watch this season. 2 Quote
Sweats Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I mean, i don't want to be "that guy", but any time Hamlin is not on the field is a good day. I love the guy, i love his story, i love his heart and passion, but this is no big secret that his skills are lacking, so......... 2 3 1 Quote
MJS Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Sure. But not if that means benching the starters, but if they can get rotated in to play some, or get more playing time while starters heal up, I'm fine with that. 1 minute ago, Sweats said: I mean, i don't want to be "that guy", but any time Hamlin is not on the field is a good day. Hamlin and Rapp have been great tacklers, and we missed that for sure. Lewis also took some bad angles that Rapp would not have had he been in there. 1 Quote

Worked by who? LaPorta and St. Brown put up 304 yards between the 2 of them. He was mostly matched up with Tim Patrick and Williams If anyone got worked it was Taron, no? 5 Quote
billieve420 Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Starters need to be 100% healthy before seeing field again in the regular season if I was the head coach. Give the backups some reps during games as well. 2 Quote
Aussie Joe Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I think there is very little possibility that McD doesn’t start Hamlin and Douglas if fit… Quote

I thought Elam played well watching it live. Much better than Bishop. Would have to re-watch the game though. 1 Quote

finn Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I'd like to see both of them gain experience and confidence. They're young and athletic and should improve fast with time on task. Hamlin has already hit his (low) ceiling, and Douglas' play has dropped quite a bit from last year. He's solid but not an asset. Elam has potential. Maybe he can play his way out of McDermott's mysterious (to us) doghouse. 1 Quote
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted December 16 Posted December 16 No. Nyet. Nada. Elam, while he hasn’t looked horrible, has the benefit of opposing offenses not having tape on him, which I think plays in his favor. He just hasn’t shown me enough, and apparently he hasn’t shown the Bills brass enough either. Bishop, while I see potential, I also see him giving up big plays at the worst possible time. Not their time yet. It’s a next year question IMO. 1 1 Quote

Bernard gave up 158 yards on 9 targets. 2 1 2 1 Quote
