Can we give JOE Brady his kudos?

Brady has done a pretty stellar job, but I'm not ready to crown him just yet. I hate how they handled the end of the first half yesterday. 2 seconds left, and they throw a short pass to Shakir. Why not attempt a fg or hail Mary there? While neither were likely to result in points, a short pass to Shakir just seemed like a wasted opportunity

Zack Taylor has had the Bengals to 2 AFCC games, winning 1 and a SB appearance.  He has won 5 playoff games with the Bengals--as many as they had won the previous 50 years--their entire existence.  That's as many wins as McD has had since he got here (7 years ago)---and they are going to fire Taylor for that?

 

He's far more experienced than Brady (who has a grand total of 23 games as an NFL coordinator) and he has a QB who can't stay on the field.  The Bengals Defense stinks. 

 

What's Brady going to do there?  Joe Burrow is certainly not Josh Allen.

It was a horrible play call, but overall Joe Brady had a fantastic game. 

 

From scheme, to attacking Detroit's weakness, to play calling. (Besides that one call)

Brady has been very good obviously but let’s be real.  When Allen is going off script and making sick throws… or on the run while getting blasted near the sidelines making perfect passes, it’s all Josh Allen’s greatness right there.  Joe Brady will get a HC job like Daboll courtesy of JA.

If you examine his limited usage, he’s been impactful and provided a positive energy that now has put him in the forefront of Brady’s 3rd down play calling. I loved this guy on the Jets and Beane scooped him up and he will be prominent in our drive for the SB.

If Burrow wants Taylor gone then he'll be gone. If he wants Brady, they'll get Brady. The team hasn't made the playoffs in two years and your top 3 players are all disgruntled. They may want a change

I wouldn't trade them even up. I think Allen has better movement skills and is a better leader who fits with his teammates as their leader

Brady has been an OC for about 40 games now, not 23.   I'm guessing you thought he was only in Carolina for part of 1 season instead of a season and half.   That's not an inconsequential amount of games as an NFL OC for a 35 year old HC candidate.

 

Brady may well have his choice of multiple HC vacancies.   I think it was pretty obvious that he had that Lions game circled all season as his own personal matchup against everyone's #1 HC candidate Ben Johnson.   He proved he wasn't outclassed as a play caller, at least.    

 

Yesterday was a negative turn of events for New Orleans or anyone else who was looking at Brady but doesn't have a franchise QB or one of the top 2 picks in this draft.

No. Only Josh Allen is allowed to receive praise. He did it all by himself. See numerous threads on this forum post W complaining as such.

HOWEVER....

That was arguably the only bad call in an otherwise elite game for Joe Brady. The variety of runs that they used, the sequencing and layering of the passing game, the way they had the Lions defense on its heels all game long. All in all, it was a masterpiece of offensive gameplanning and playcalling. 

And oh, by the way, they scored 48 points against a top 10 scoring defense on the road, in front of a fired up home crowd, and have achieved the rare feat of scoring 30+ points for eight games in a row.

So yeah, you're right, it was a dumb playcall. But if your major reaction after the game is to point out the one dumb playcall rather than the 4 quarters of brilliant playcalling, I don't know what to tell ya. No one's perfect. But Brady was about as close to it as an NFL OC can reasonably get yesterday, and one bad playcall doesn't change the fact that he deserves kudos for the job he's doing.

There's another aspect of Brady's success, and that how Allen always has options and Allen and the other players always find those options. Not always, of course, but the success of the offense should be measured by the high percentage of positive plays the Bills have. Cook has positive opportunities most of the time he gets the ball, and he takes advantage. The other backs, too. All the receivers eat, because if they all run their routes, Allen will find them and Allen can deliver the ball. 

 

I noticed the Seahawks trying to run a variety of quick passes to the wing, screens and other strategies. The league began shutting the Bills down when the Bills went to Shakir too often on those plays. For the past several weeks, the Bills have gone away from that game, and they've had even better success elsewhere, Then, when you've forgotten about the wide stuff, there's another. And then, out of nowhere, comes the shovel pass to Shakir. I think we've seen that from the Bills a few times, but not often.  Still, those plays are now in the arsenal. 

 

Bottom line is that the offense can attack anywhere and everywhere. Doesn't mean they can't be stopped, but it makes them hard to stop.
