Doc Posted December 17 Posted December 17 It seems that field goal kicking has been terrible across the league this year. 2 Quote

But seriously, they should sign the kicker the Chefs released last week, to the PS. The guy who had to doink it in on a chip shot fg to win the game? Quote

It's funny, all the way back in week 2 we had that ridiculous Bears vs Texans game. The Kickers in that game combined to go 5/5 on 50+ yard kicks. I think league wide there had only been 1 missed kick of 50+ through the first 2 weeks. Kickers really fell off a cliff after that. I feel like there's been more blocked kicks than normal too, but I have no stats to back that up 1 Quote
Billy Claude Posted December 18 Posted December 18 5 minutes ago, Doc said: It seems that field goal kicking has been terrible across the league this year. The make rate is 83.8% this season vs. 85.9% last season which was the second highest ever. So the kickers are missing about 13% more kicks this season vs last. Last time it was lower was 81.6% in 2019. The make rate on 50 yard+ field goals is the highest it has ever been. So the rate is a little bit but not a lot lower. I think it feels like there are a lot more misses than usual because some established names have been incredibly bad: Dustin Hopkins (64%), Justin Tucker (70%), Younghoe Koo (73%) and others. 1 Quote

He should have that stat line from that range. It's beyond that where it gets tricky. Missing that 44-yarder against KC in the playoffs last year was inexcusable. Quote

eball Posted December 18 Posted December 18 The short FG miss was totally an alignment thing. I mean, how many of those short kicks do teams attempt anyway these days? What I'm looking at with respect to Bass is how he is striking the ball. That's why I'm not worried about him any more. He is really hitting the ball great. Every other kick on Sunday was blasted down the middle. Quote

I don't really trust any kicker but I don't think he's missed a game winning kick. I could be wrong though. I remember him making it @Baltimore and home twice against the Fish. The last from 62 yards. That KC game in the playoffs where we had a chance to tie was obviously the biggest miss of his career. Quote

At the end of the day 44 yards is not a gimme no matter where the NFL has gone Let alone he was on his hash that he doesn't like kicking from.. I honestly did not have faith when he tried it out there so I don't think it's inexcusable I didn't think he was going to make it If you missed a 33 yarder in the playoffs to win that would be inexcusable his was a bad miss Quote

His kicks fade right and from the right hash it seems like he’s afraid of starting it out left of center in fear of it not coming back. Don’t you think his special teams coach should be able to make adjustments. Yeah, he prefers the left hash so whenever he has to kick off the right hash I'm kinda like, "eh, he's flakey on this side." I think with the chip shot last week he thought he'd just boot it and sneak it inside the right upright as opposed to trying to direct it to the center and run the risk of shanking it wide left, because he's done that before. I also think he struggles with short ones because he has a pretty powerful leg so the ball is up and moving pretty quickly and doesn't always spin the way he wants it to before it gets to the goalposts. We see all the time a kick that looks wide but then curves to be good. Sometimes with his that curve happens right after it passes wide of the posts. Quote

Whatever the reason, he scares the crap out of me on meaningful kicks. I hope he doesn’t ruin our season. Maybe his history of inconsistency is the reason Sean goes on 4th down and Josh is more dependable than some of his kicks. Quote
