I suspect that Josh Allen, who has a much more informed position than any of us, would disagree with you on this.

I see you are new to this board.  This board has been calling for McD's head since the day he was hired.   Get used to it.

This board will whine about McD at any opportunity.

Just want to point out last year they needed week 18 to get to 11.  Week 18 did not exist for the first 100 years or so and has been around for three years. So if they never added the 17th game this would not be a thing.

I am a McDermott supporter and this is still impressive

That’s not exactly how it works.  We played Miami in that 17th game.  We would have played Miami with 16 games too.   The extra game was either the Bucs(W) Bengals (L)or Jags. (L).  1-2 in those games.  Someone who understands the schedule better than me can figure out which game was “added”

For those not familiar, we will see lots of posts hating on McDermott. Most people realize he's a very good coach, but some think every loss is his fault and every win is despite him. It's kinda funny.

As someone posted in another thread -  McDermott is a great coach and team builder...Where we see his short coming is in game management, especially in critical areas.    Secondly,  no matter who runs the defense,  McDermott has his fingerprints on it and associated deeply with it...hence he takes accolades as well as criticism.

It was the Bucs game, the Bills won, so without that they would have been 10-6.  Is that how it works?

That list is heavily QB dependent I see

Yes, but also heavily coach dependent, you'll notice.

You need a very good coach and a very good QB to have consistent excellent success.

Reid has actually done it twice, once with the Eagles (0/1), and currently with KC he has 7 straight (3/4). Belichick was 10 straight years (3/5). Dungy was 6 straight (1/1). Landry was also 6 straight (1/2). Anybody wanna guess what the numbers in parentheses are?

Super Bowl wins, right? Reid's first came in his 20th year as an HC, Belichick's in his seventh. This is McDermott's eighth.

Anyone who thinks we've got enough data on McDermott yet is simply not thinking clearly.

Can we just fire him already?  Can he take Cook with him when he leaves?

It isn't the board. It's a certain segment of it.

They disappear when things are good and reappear when we lose one. They're dopey, but entertaining. That's the way to look at it.

Josh won those games. McD just along for the ride and potentially goofing it up with every opportunity

Yes, every win belongs to Josh, and every loss belongs to McD. I’ve heard it all before.

Considering Tampa had to fire Dungy and bring in Gruden to win a SB, and Dungy was only able to snag 1 Championship with Manning, I think you might be making more of the "fire McD" argument than you meant to...

Dungy was a far greater coach and man than Gruden, but Gruden got to play against the Raiders in the SB who didn’t even bother to change terminology from when he was there. John Lynch was laughing hysterically on the sidelines that they knew what was coming on every play. Don’t take too much out of that SB.

Point stands, they couldnt win it with Dungy, regardless of what came after.

It was the Buccs.

Dungy won one. Clearly he was good enough to win a Super Bowl. Dungy's good proof that a lot of times it's about situation and fit. That it's more complex than just this guy's good enough and this guy ain't.

As is Reid proof of that. And Belichick, really.

How many did Gruden win after that? Guy had six more years in Tampa and got more than nine wins one time.

Belichick, Reid and Dungy were fantastic coaches, though. I'm not really certain about Gruden. It sure looked like it for a while but now ...?

We don’t know if Dungy would have won it that year, do we?

And he's the only coach on that list that regularly blows 1-2 regular season games with bad coaching. See Rams and Texans.

I see an opinion that's pretty arguable. Even great coaches have bad games.

What McDermott does seem to have is a bunch of fans who tag every loss as being his fault.

Correct. We dont know what would have happened. We just know he didnt.

You’re the guy who hates McD so much that you’d tear everything down just to get rid of him. Your bias does not add to your credibility. Gruden is scum. I was in that market when he was there, and I heard and saw enough personally about Gruden that I’d have rather kept Dungy and taken my chances. I’m not selling my soul for a SB.

Not true at all, and you really need to stop strawman-ing me. I've pointed this out to you before. Your over-sensitivity in these discussions discredits your argument as well.

Just because we talk about the issues doesnt mean there is any hate.

Dont come after ME just because the fact is Dungy didnt win a Super Bowl in Tampa.

This thread isnt about which is the better person off the field.
