I know it looks messed up in back to back weeks but that's more optics and situational, imo.

The Lions had 14 points late in the 3rd qrtr when the Bills went up 3 TDs and started trading yards for time.

It was just two drives they were too passive and it was as much abut the clock and scoreboard as it was protecting the safety position.

When relatively healthy they are a competent defense that forces offenses to execute at high efficiency. I wish they were more proactive at times and hope they will be going forward knowing they are partnering with that kind of offense. The fact they are likely to be playing with lots of leads is helpful and if they can keep Milano, Rapp and hopefully Bishop out there I think they are good enough to win a SB.

Elam was fine today.  Bishop hasn’t played a lot and players all develop on their own time.  Just because a rookie 2nd rounder that is still learning the defense struggled today, doesn’t mean he’s a bust

Cole is much better suited at playing close to the line of scrimmage then he is being in a high safety look. He's actually similar to Elam in that the things he did in College didn't entirely fit the things that the Bills do defensively. I think he's smart enough to get it and become a solid safety but to be honest I'm more starting to get worried about Bishop's durability. He hurt the shoulder, he went out of the game today no matter how minor today and there was a little bit of chatter that he didn't come to camp in the best shape he could have if I recall.

I thought Bishop did pretty well today actually. Especially for a rookie Safety. NONE of our Safeties were as good in their rookie season as Bishop was today. Not even Hyde or Poyer.

They’re starting to feel like that first superbowl run chiefs team where the offense is lights out and defense is pretty solid and can get a few stops to win

We scored 48 and the game came down to an onside kick with 12 seconds left. The defense is terrible. The only way to win in the playoffs is with a perfect Josh Allen. Going to be tough to do over what is likely to be 4 playoff games.

Yea I mean I know its not major but it makes me roll my eyes a little bit that he had to get carted off the field and he's a young guy who had to of known he was going to start this week so he should have been hydrating himself.

I can’t understand this ‘came down to an onside kick’ thing for the life of me.  There were 12 seconds left in the game if lions recovered.  Pretty much needed a 13 seconds level miracle (with one less timeout) and an onside recovery miracle back to back.  Really probably more unlikely than 13 seconds even if they recover.  Better field position but needed a td.  Only thing making it FEEL close is people being sensitive to past trauma/overly emotionally invested watching their own team play.

Hyde and Poyer were both CBs that were moved to safety and excelled. Hyde was actually a pretty decent CB too before being kicked back. I would hope a college safety would be further along with the supposed DB guru McDermott.

Poyer never cracked the starting lineup his entire time in Cleveland, and those were the 2-14, 0-16 teams. Hyde was moved around between CB and Safety and never found his spot. Until they each had about 5 years in the league.

 

Hamlin had a great football pedigree coming in and still struggled to find his footing until this year (year 4).

 

All I'm saying is, it takes a while to learn the position, and reading pro offenses.

 

Bishop was much better along today than any of those guys at this point. He'll keep developing.

I read on here we don't need defense this offseason and should go heavy offense for the 4th season in a row though...so how could our defense be an issue?
