Many on this board were critical of him being an old conservative outdated defensive mind for his constant focus on being able to run the ball and win up front. Not only was McD right that this was the answer, it unleashed our franchise QB to win his first MVP and hopefully a Lombardi. Go Bills. There’s a lot of truth to this. Many here assumed that by saying he wanted a “balanced offense” McDermott was looking to ground and pound. They also complained “McDermott is taking the air out of the football.” But the pass heavy games called by Dorsey were problematic. Defenses could sit back in Cover 2 to counter the pass and the Bills weren’t good enough to take advantage of weak boxes. The running game had added a new dimension to the offense this season. I also think we need to give a ton of credit to Joe Brady who changed the identity of the offense he inherited last season. 3 Quote

He deserves credit too. Clearly both Beane, McDermott and Brady were all on the same page with what they wanted to do on offense 1 Quote
Jerome007 Posted Monday at 01:53 AM Posted Monday at 01:53 AM It's a TEAM sport. Without Josh, we all know the story is completely different. Yet it's not ALL Josh! I was thrilled with the OLine moves last year, and it shows today. Kromer is a great OL coach too! Anyway, so many small details add up, so yes McD deserves a chunk of the credit. 2 1 Quote

This place is addicted to putting the team down even when they beat the #1 team in the league. 1 2 1 Quote

VW82 Posted Monday at 01:56 AM Posted Monday at 01:56 AM OPer makes a good point. Many around these parts have been complaining forever about our lack of investment in receivers and badmouthing McD for wanting a balanced O and more complimentary football. This Bills offense is so successful because it's more than just about Allen. 1 2 Quote

Most people were calling them done after Tyrek Hill left, remember? I admit I AM surprised how the Bills do so well, and well offensively, with this new crop of receivers! Cooper, the legit #1 WR, had ZERO catches today, and yet the Bills scored 48 points! Think about it. Quote
LABILLBACKER Posted Monday at 02:03 AM Posted Monday at 02:03 AM To be fair and most of you know I'm not a big McD fan, it would be incredibly disingenuous to think that Sean didn't have a part in every player selected. That's why I use the McB acronym when talking about all our picks. I think it's always been a duo mutual agreement by both men. With that said Sean should get credit for finally rebuilding our oline with Brown, Torrence and Edwards. He should get credit for what we have now as an amazing RB trio. And let's not forget that these 2 guys mutually picked Josh over Rosen which would've been a historical disaster of epic proportions. Not every pick is perfect but these 2 deserve their props. And he should get credit for seeing Dorsey's issues and replacing him with Brady. I think Josh absolutely loves playing for Sean & Joe. Now we all patiently wait for him to find an elite pass rusher as we try and tolerate the game managing issues. That's really his one and maybe only big flaw. 3 Quote

Even a lot of the passes are from him buying time for WRs to work open. They still seriously under invested in WR and Cooper isn't a long term answer. 1 Quote

At no point was McD ever conservative...thats just talk of people who ignore facts and make assumptions because he was a defensive HC. He is, and always has been, one of the most aggressive coaches in the NFL during the Josh Allen era. Now his in game decisions at end game moments - well thats fair game to question at times. 1 Quote

nedboy7 Posted Monday at 02:19 AM Posted Monday at 02:19 AM It's hard to win the NFL with no QB. That's why no team has attempted it. 1 Quote
thenorthremembers Posted Monday at 02:21 AM Posted Monday at 02:21 AM A member of the Bills front office has a kid who goes to the same football camp as my son, same position. I talked to him a great deal during the camp. I told him I always thought Brady made Belichick. He disagreed a great deal. His exact words were, winning football is an ecosystem, it takes the perfect scheme, the perfect players for the scheme, and the perfect organization of everything around that. I doubt Allen becomes Allen if he goes to Cleveland, the Giants, the Jets or the Broncos at that time. McDermott does play into that. I dont know what this board has against McDermott, but its not just on a football level, its personal for many of you. Just like Allen, you will miss McDermott when he is finally gone. 3 4 Quote
Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted Monday at 02:31 AM Posted Monday at 02:31 AM I do love all our RB's. Not only can they all run the ball well, they are even better receiving threats. It really opens everything up for Allen. Because when we come out in heavy personnel with a back or even two backs were are still very much capable of going down field through the air. Quote
Rigotz Posted Monday at 02:40 AM Posted Monday at 02:40 AM (edited) Yes, McDermott, the offensive mastermind is the reason our O-Line is better than ever and Josh is playing great. Not Joe Brady, not Brandon Beane, not the world class position coaches like Aaron Kromer, not the players themselves, the head coach and his zero years of experience coaching offense did this. BeastMaster Posted Monday at 02:46 AM Posted Monday at 02:46 AM McDermott is also responsible for the defense that has not only failed Josh this season, but has failed him every year in the playoffs Spare me the McD praise 1 Quote

Cooper isn't a long-term answer but was an investment in winning this year. Keon was a long-term investment, and getting overly specific about WRs makes my point. We have a very good Oline, and one of the deepest and most talented RB and TE rooms in the L. We rushed for almost 200 yards today. It was the definition of a balanced attack. Everyone was involved. Edit: internet is giving Joe Brady his flowers. That's at least part credit to McD who hired him. Edited Monday at 03:00 AM by VW82 Quote
