Both of the lions onside kicks were played really well. The first kick was a great play by Hollins, but a perfect kick by the Lions.

It looks like it would have sailed out of bounds if he didn't grab it. Ironically we could have probably burned a few minutes off the clock on that drive and had a less stressful ending.

Why do teams go lateral? Kick it straight forward and have kicker ram the guy catching it. I’ve never seen an onside kick like that. Would definitely increase chances from 3%…

They executed it perfectly, and you have to have a kicker who is also willing to throw himself in there.  Kudos to TJ for keeping the fight in the pile

That should have been a flag. The Lion hit Taron before the ball travelled 10 yards and got to him. I know it was bang, bang and that is hard for the officials to see, but definitely should have been a flag.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who said that

I would not bank on a flag being thrown in that situation unless it is very, very obvious.

No I get that. But I'd have been fuming if the Lions recovered and scored. Because it was clearly a foul.

Or hits the opposing player

Yeah it’s actually gotta be a slower kick allowing the ball to travel nearly at the speed of the incoming rush.

was going to say the same thing. Two perfect kicks. In hindsight, the lions should have done onsides kicks all game!

Campbell is crazy enough to try something like that.

Yes, but if the opposing player mishandles it first...

My issue is teams have to wait until the 4th quarter. Like why? It's stupid.

I believe they are looking at changing some of these rules in the off-season.  Maybe that particular issue is in the agenda. But honestly, does it matter? No surprise onsides make it less of a play now anyways.

I agree...those were 2 of the best onside kicks I've seen in a long time. We were fortunate on both. The ball did ricochet off Taron's helmet just a fraction before the guy hit him.

You are actually right.  I didn’t notice this during the broadcast:

You weren’t a fan of the Bills for the Comeback game if you’ve never seen a straight onside kick.  Look up Mark Pike.

And Steve Christie recovered it!

The new onside rules are dumb. Why did the NFL emasculate this play so badly? They act like this was the most dangerous play in the history of the NFL. Were that many players actually injured in this play in the last 50 years?

Imagine this board if McD made that decision.  I mean we are barely able to enjoy this amazing win as it is.

Even at the time, I thought that Campbell's decision to go with an onsides kick with 12:00 left, and the Lions down 10, was dumb.  I don't think that Campbell is particularly bright, and tries too hard sometimes to live up to his 'tough guy' image.

Probably not a popular take here, but I'll be rooting against the Lions from here on out.  Scummy players like Branch, Joseph and Patrick can GFT.  After the 3rd down play where Branch interfered (no call, of course) with Hollins in the EZ, Branch, Arnold and another one of their fellow scrub DBs (who had been repeatedly torched all game long) were talking junk to Hollins, while their teammate was writhing on the ground in pain....Hollins pointed to the injured Lion, seemingly saying "look, you idiots, your teammate is seriously injured".  Seemed like a lot of "me first", "look at me" type players on that team.

Yet most people on here do not appreciate what we have.   Some really disturbing threads today after the win.
