It's still entirely Josh Allen

All NFL teams have good football players on the roster. Good coaches put players in position to succeed bearing in mind their particular aptitudes, skills and the requirements of the team's schemes and philosophy. 
A great quarterback can bring out the very best in what players on offence have to offer. Josh Allen certainly does that. But that is as far as it goes imo. Success is inevitably a collective effort from the ground up involving all aspects of the organization as a whole. The Bills are one of the best organizations in the game. 
Josh Allen may very well be the best player on the planet but there are plenty of other outstanding contributors here without which Josh's talent, great as it is, would be wasted. And then of course there is Brady, Kromer and the rest of the coaching staff.

The only thing I might counter with is that I don't care that much how our defense looked against teams like the Jags and Titans. I think our D feasts on teams like that, and they're not the teams we will see in January and hopefully February.  It's those teams I'm concerned about - and combined w/ our D's disappearing act in some previous notable playoff games, recent performances aren't giving me a lot of confidence.  I still believe in the old adage that "defense wins championships."

Thinking back on starting this thread, it was probably less than a minute after that last onside kick from the Lions.  I was incredulous that I just watched a QB play the kind of game I thought we'd never see in Buffalo again after Kelly - just jaw-dropping - and it was still down to the wire.  I heard a few pundits this week compare it to something like a senior playing against the JV.  And here we are, at the end of a brilliant performance like that, biting our nails about a final onside kick.  I was just frustrated about that.  And maybe a Lions fan could say the same thing about Goff putting up 500+ and still losing, but man, it just seems like such a consistent theme w/ Allen.

 

 

 

 

I've completely lost faith that we'll ever have a championship caliber defense under current management. That's why I've been saying for a couple years now the Bills should go all in on building an offense that can steamroll opponents all the way to the Super Bowl. Because clearly that's the only way it's going to happen. To their credit they have seemingly done that this year, partly by investing and partly by Allen taking his game to an even higher level. It's hard to argue with 8 consecutive games of 30+ points scored, and 2 games now of 40+ points scored. I think once we're past the wildcard round all of our games will have to look something like the Lions game. Go aggressive on defense early to try and create negative plays, and the offense needs to just keep scoring TDs and be aggressive on 4th down. It's not the formula most Super Bowl teams have used in recent years but it's our best shot. And next offseason they can't tread water - re-sign Cooper or sign a similarly talented WR, and draft another one on day one or two. Just keep adding to the offense and make the defense practically irrelevant. And ideally next year we need the offense to run like this without Allen putting his body on the line every single week.

We showed in the first half vs Lions that when we're actually prepared to run stunts, well-disguised blitzes, mix up coverages, stack the box on early downs, etc., that this defense can still be effective vs. top offenses. 

 

The chicken little hyperbole being exhibited itt and other places around here wrt the defense and McBeane's inability to field a unit capable of being part of a SB winning team is a little much. Guess what? It's hard to stop great teams with 3rd string LBers and Safeties. It's tough sledding when you have to sign a former MLBer off the couch for a playoff run. 

 

I don't absolve McBeane for all the issues. Clearly, we haven't achieved expected return on our DLine investment. Scheme leaves something to be desired, especially late game with a lead including late game situational decision making by the HC. They've let the team down in important spots. 

 

We've also had the #2 (2019), #1 (2021), #2 (2022), and #4 (2023) scoring defenses the last six years, and we were trending toward top 5 again before these last two games. Bet we finish in the top 10 even though we've spent most of the year saving our best stuff, instead opting to play vanilla zone most weeks. 

 

If McD ***** up again in the playoffs, then I'll stop defending him. Some of you guys need to cut down on the hyperbole though.

Upgrades are always welcome but if we went into next year with the same complement on offence (or equivalent) as we have now (including the OC) I would be content. You shouldn't need more than the greatest show on turf.  Beane has done a great job of rebuilding the O line and drafting/finding weapons for Allen. We see the results. Now in the upcoming offseason he needs to do the same thing filling in the holes on defence. I think he should be able to do that and if he does you have an absolute juggernaut. That's what I want.

Lets not forget too that their defense lost both starting safeties, then Milano got hurt and back now, but still looks rusty or maybe is washed?.  More of the key injuries we've had this season have also been on defensive side of ball too.

 

Meanwhile on offensive side the only person gone on, and certainly a big one was Diggs.  But even there, how big a loss is debatable.  Just compared with 3 games to go, Mack Hollins has better stats in most categories that G Davis did last year.  Wouldn't be surprised if they sign him in off season to maybe a 2 year deal?

I told you before the season, this year he would transform into Neo from the Matrix once he actually believed he was "The One" and he has pretty much done just that.
