BRH Posted December 15 Posted December 15 Those of us of a certain age remember these guys well. Very well done film, in my opinion. But watching these guys move in their "old" age is a sobering reminder of how violent the game was back then. Just about every play they showed would be a 15-yard penalty today. Salaam died recently from multiple health issues, Gastineau suffers from dementia, and it's obvious that neither Klecko nor Lyons can walk without pain. Some Bills stuff in there: they showed Marty Lyons "giving [Kelly] the business down there" and also showed one of my favorite plays, Bill Simpson's goal line INT of Richard Todd to stave off a furious Jets comeback and win the '81 divisional playoff game at Shea. 2 3 3 Quote
Charles Romes Posted December 15 Posted December 15 They never really got to the reason why Gastineau walked away from the game in 1988 when leading the NFL in sacks (7 sacks in 7 games when he quit). 1 Quote

Well, if you believe Gastineau, and I’m not sure I do, it sounds like he was on the verge of being suspended for steroids. Gastineau seems like the type to have told so many stories (lies) that he has trouble keeping track. I thought he came off as the saddest one. The others seem to have found some life outside of football. 1 2 Quote
BillsPride12 Posted December 15 Posted December 15 This era was before my time and I didn't really know much about them so it was pretty cool to learn some new NFL history. Mark Gastineau is a real piece of work though 1 Quote
Pre1236 Posted December 15 Posted December 15 They could have made Gastineau look really bad if they’d wanted. Tons of stories of him being a jackass, disliked by teammates, and they completely brushed over him being a scab. 2 Quote
PonyBoy Posted December 15 Posted December 15 The Sack exchange was huge back in the day. I played on a pretty good teen bowling team back then. Even though we were Bills fans, we named our team.. The NY Strike Exchange 😃 1 1 Quote

This was before my time as a Bills fan. What was it like playing against this DL? I know that Buffalo had a good team in 1980 and 1981. 27 minutes ago, PonyBoy said: The Sack exchange was huge back in the day. I played on a pretty good teen bowling team back then. Freddie's Dead Posted December 15 Posted December 15 Did they show Klecko cheap-shotting Jim Kelly in Jim's first game? I was there in 86, Bills had the ball on the Jest 1-yard line, and Klecko just came out of his stance and leveled Kelly before the snap. Only cost him 1/2-yard penalty, so why not? I find it hard to dredge up much sympathy for such a dirty player. Karma is indeed a female dog. 1 1 Quote
T.E. Posted December 15 Posted December 15 Brett Favre gifting Michael Strahan that sack to get the single-season record was a bad moment in football history. Gastineau was before my time, but I still remember watching that travesty with Strahan and finding it to reprehensible. 1 Quote
loyal2dagame Posted December 15 Posted December 15 These 30 for 30 shows are the only good and pure sports content they have on ESPN anymore 2 6 Quote

Complete late cheap shot on Kelly late. 😡 Edited December 15 by Kelly to Allen 1 Quote

LT, Tony Dorsett, Randy White, Joe Montana, Doug flutie, Howie long etc. those guys were paid and only cared about themselves. That is why the nfl players union is weak. the same would happen today if there was a strike. 1 Quote

bills6969 Posted December 15 Posted December 15 I love how Gastineau thinks that Strahan’s sack record is invalidated because of the Favre ‘sack’ but Gastineau was an open steroid user so… 2 Quote
shane nelson Posted December 15 Posted December 15 Fun times, but Mark Gastineau was never right and clearly has only gotten worse. He had so many steroids in his body that one of the players on the Jets said his testicles were the size of raisins. 1 Quote
Matt_In_NH Posted December 15 Posted December 15 Gastineau just comes off selfish/narcisistic which is how it was when he was playing too. 2 hours ago, MikePJ76 said: Pretty much all the star players around the league were scabs. Yeah, here is the complete list...this was not one or two guys. https://www.quirkyresearch.com/2017/09/22/veterans-who-crossed-the-picket-line-1987-nfl-strike/ Quote
