Niners scorn 'selfish' De'Vondre Campbell's refusal to play

Can you imagine playing with a selfish POS like this guy? I know we had a guy retire in the middle of the game, but to get the call to play and out-right refuse??

After the Niners' 12-6 defeat at Levi's Stadium, head coach Kyle Shanahan explained that Campbell elected not to enter the game even though linebackers Dre Greenlaw (knee) and Dee Winters (neck) were dealing with injuries.

I think this is actually worse than Vonte Davis.

At least Vonte played the first half before realizing he just didn't have it anymore. Might not have been the right way to go about it, but you could at least conceive of the reaction.

For sure. Vontae tried to go and after two quarters knew he didn’t have what he needed physically/mentally/emotionally to play the game…. He put in the effort and found out he didn’t have enough. It was strange, but understandable.

Still not great. Like he could have sat on the sideline and played in a pinch. IIRC one of our other corners got hurt later. They lost by 30 something that game, its not like Davis was holding us back.

 

But refusing to play period? thats unforgiveable

I came into this thread to find out why he refused to play.  All I've seen so far is the speculation you just said.  I'm really surprised more information hasn't been released.

Yep, given the strong reaction by his teammates and the “selfish” comments, it’s not difficult to put two and two together. When Greenlaw had to come out, it was Campbell’s way of saying “nope, you don’t get to go back to me now” and he literally walked away from the team.
