Once you realize that modern conservatism is driven entirely by fear and paranoia, it becomes a hell of a lot easier to understand

The problem here is we've got all these federal officials saying these drones pose no threat but at the same time they claim they have no idea what they are.

Which is a completely illogical argument. Because by definition an unknown is unknown. So how can anyone know an unknown poses a risk or no risk? The risk is unknowable. So facts are required beyond their smoke and mirrors BS evasive non-explanations.

Most political discussions boil down to that sort of thing, Roundy.  Haven't you heard that democracy (an institution 250 years in the making) is in peril, that authoritarians will soon occupy the WH (and that authoritarians will soon be departing the WH), that man-made climate change will destroy the planet in 5 no 8 no 10, no 20, no 30 years plus or minus, more or less, that Russians were in the WH, that the Chinese were in the WH, that one candidate or the other is an existential threat, that a group middle-aged beer bellied people almost overthrew the government?

My favorite is that in order to save the world, we need to get rid of cars, all people as directed by those in power need to move into mandated living chambers and spend their lives foraging no further than 15-18 minutes from their assigned pod*.

*I say that's how the drones will get ya!

By the title, I thought this was going to be a Jets and Giants thread.

Well, you can bet the next minor league team in New Jersey will use New Jersey Drones for their team name.

Did people until the 1940s live in “mandated living chambers?” Because that’s all new urbanism is about is returning to that style of living instead of unsustainable suburban sprawl.

New urbanism is just a fancy name for chucking people on top of other people chucked below them, and I certainly can understand that some people like that style of living.   My people lived in single family homes in the 1940s, not choosing to be chucked upstairs or downstairs.  That tradition has continued for their descendants, now on to great-great-grandchildren living as they choose and leading productive lives.   I believe that the chucked people of the 1940s were often victims of circumstances, exposed to harmful environmental conditions that were potentially avoidable.  That wasn't limited to the lego living standards, but certainly is part of the story.

Bottom line--live a lego life if you choose, but stand down on suburban living for those who choose that standard of living.

Suburban living is not sustainable environmentally or economically.

Umm it's been happening since 1950, it's more than sustainable.

Endless sprawl is never sustainable.

The guy complaining about fear and trepidation of the modern conservative is terrified of... the suburbs.  Go figure!

You cannot keep using up a finite amount of land for spaced out single family homes that require multiple cars for a family. It’s not going to work.

I hate to do this, but am compelled.

There is a mass amount of uniformed opinion about this, but I want to clear something up that seems to be in evidence.

AIRSPACE OVER MILITARY INSTALLATIONS IS MOST OFTEN NOT RESTRICTED.

Got that?

The fact that there is a military installation does not mean that the airspace over it is restricted.

More often than not, it is not restricted.

There are some places that are, but this is a total red herring re this drone nonsense.

There is controlled airspace that you need to get a clearance to fly through; nothing to do with security, everything to do with traffic.

There is uncontrolled airspace. Flying in there requires no FAA clearance.

There is restricted airspace, which limits who can fly there.

There is prohibited airspace, which means nobody can fly through there without a special clearance.

You sound like you’re wrapped up in some sort of religious fervor.

How much space are you allotting per family/individual in these little cubicle  castles once you convince people the world is ends unless they acquiesce?   How many children can a family have in the world order, because let’s be honest, when you speak doom and gloom and unsustainable certainly population must be managed.

It sounds positively dreadful in my opinion.
