JFKjr Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Reports say some are as large as cars. Officials say they don't know what they are, but they pose no threat. (okay, then!) Here's a fun video from NJ 1 1
JFKjr Posted December 13 Author Posted December 13 (edited) Seems weird they'd be allowed near an airport. Edited December 13 by JFKjr
B-Man Posted December 13 Posted December 13 This is ludicrous. SOMEONE in the government knows what is going on. Just tell us. 1 1

Including over sensitive military bases. The Biden Admin's rule of engagement is that they can't be taken down unless they actively attack. So they're just doing what ever they want.
BillsFanNC Posted December 13 Posted December 13 (edited) I, for one am completely shocked that something like this is happening. Don't worry though our government has it under control indeed. It won't escalate. Edited December 13 by BillsFanNC 1
sherpa Posted December 13 Posted December 13 They're not permitted in controlled airspace, which the airspace close to an airport is, without a clearance. Drones have very specific flight rules they must abide by.
GETTOTHE50 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 What the hell is actually going on at this point. This govt/biden administration has no control of the border or air space. Get him them the ***** outta here ASAP. What a joke 2
yall Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Maybe Sherpa could add more, but there are absolutely a number of anti-drone and drone detection systems (including certain radar systems that can distinguish between drones and birds) that I would be surprised to find aren't being employed here. That in turn leads me to believe this is probably something of our own doing. If China or Iran were launching drones en masse over sensitive areas, after a day or two I think we'd have a good idea regarding where they were being launched and by whom. 1

I have no idea what their purpose is and I'm sure they can be detected. Depending on what type they are, it's usually fairly easy to figure out who's flying them becasue they are remotely controlled unless a programmed route is inserted, and the remotes are not that powerful meaning the operator should be fairly close by. In addition, unless they a somewhat sophisticated, they are pretty easy to jam and make go stupid, even crash. It would just take a little enforcement time and effort, and they probably only need to get one in order to figure out what is going on. I've got a commercial drone license and used mine commercially for a number of years doing real estate and other pay projects for fun. Whoever is flying these is probably not licensed. 1

Here's my personal and amateur observation of these "drones". I've seen these objects in the sky a few times. Always at night. Always moving in the same pattern. They appear in groups of 6 to 10 moving in a consistent path following each other one after another spaced out maybe about a mile or two apart moving from north to south and then turning east towards the coast. If you look at a map of New Jersey for reference, they become visible say a flight path from Morristown moving south to about Princeton and then arc turn east. They fly at a low altitude, maybe 2K feet but its hard to tell without reference to their actual size. They move slowly. Its hard to estimate their speed given its night but I'd say maybe 30 to 50 mph. If that. Each one is clearly visible for about 10 minutes. Red, green, white lights. At a distance they look like a Christmas tree star until they get closer. Way too slow to be a commercial or military aircraft and definitely not helicopters moving or hovering slowly because those things generally make a loud and distinctive sound. These objects are quiet but there is some audio output from them. Whatever they are, they make no effort to conceal themselves. As for an assessment, a marksman with a high-powered rifle and a good scope could probably hit them with a shot or two and take one down but my guess is anyone trying that would be swarmed by the Feds in a couple minutes. I expect the government knows exactly what's going on, has eyes and ears and assets deployed here, but won't say a thing to the public for whatever reason they might have. As one astute poster stated here on another thread, the government's standard operating protocol is to "avoid transparency at all costs". Edited December 13 by All_Pro_Bills 2

If it was the gov and secretive, they wouldn't have the lights on, and to what purpose? 2000' is really high for a drone, and illegal. That would also get them into much stronger winds, probably 30-40 knots. Not where a drone wants to be. 30-50 mph is really fast for a small drone. 1

I am suspicious of these judgements. I can't see any reason the gov would do this. Its not like they don't know what's underneath these things, and they certainly know they would be seen. Just an opinion, but I'm of the view that this is nothing. 1
Orlando Buffalo Posted December 13 Posted December 13 This story is odd to me because I am quite certain the US government is lying but I can't figure out why. I understand there are times it is necessary for the government to mislead the public, at least for a short time, but usually the purpose is obvious, with this one I have nothing. 1
