RB screens— are they back!?

Lost in the shuffle of the Rams loss was the fact that the Bills ran two tremendously successful and well-timed RB screens. That includes the Ty Johnson TD.

 

I believe those are the first successful RB screen plays since Chan Gailey dialed them up back in the day!
 

was this just lucky blip? How did they magically pull this off? Is this the start of a new golden era in RB screens?

Hope so! This week i worry more about defending them than actually running them.

That play was BEAUTIFUL!! I've been calling for that all season

They attempted at least two other RB screens in prior weeks and both were predictable failures. Then, suddenly, they pull off two beautiful ones! 
 

I wonder if some of it had to do with Ty?

RB's are killing it this season all over the league.    WR's are complaining about lack of touches, AJ Brown, Deebo, etc..

I do think Ty has maybe the best hands on the team (other than Shakir),,,,and his north/south running is tremendous.

They were a modified screen tho which goes much better with the way Allen typically handles screens.

 

Typical screens rely on the QB fading back and allowing the rushing defenders towards him. Allen doesn't have the patience for that and usually unloads too early which kills the play.

 

These screens looked similar to our WR screens in that the ball was thrown almost immediately similar to how they throw a WR screen but instead to an RB out of the backfield with the OLine pulling ahead of it.

 

They were brilliantly executed, especially the 2nd one where he faked to Shakir on one side and then immediately turned and went to Johnson who has nothing but daylight in front of him.  That reminded me of the old Patriot double screen with Brady.

I believe it has more to do with how they ran the screen...they were more of an immediate WR type screen than the typical draw the defense towards the QB and lob it over their head screen.

Taron Johnson and Milano used to be deadly vs screens (RB screens, bubbles, etc). I think their level of play this week could make or break the game for the Bills. Lions are the best screen team in football and our defense in the past has been very successful limiting them.

Cue Austin Johnson who very well might be the best interior defender against screens in the NFL. Who would have thought?

 

2 INTs in 3 weeks on RB screens ties him with Sauce Gardner for career INTs 🤣🤣

As a previous player and coach in my younger days, I look at Cook as the explosive workhorse, Davis as the banger to get tough yards, amd Ty as a 3rd down back who has excellent hands.  He’s also explosive as well.

 

What I wrote in a separate thread is we need Coleman along with Cooper and Shakir, and Knox.  Kinkaid can have more time to get right for the playoffs.  Only with all our weapons are we going to beat the Lions.

I seem to recall Taron getting injured in the game last week.  Does anyone know his status for this week?

Not sure if it's true but on one of Ty's longer TD's earlier this year Browny & Tasker said that Ty is actually a a schmidge faster than Cook, & they had already started plugging in Davis by that time & it's almost like forgot that Ty was there, kind of like they did with Knox too after Kincaid was brought on but now due to injury both have said HEY CHECK THIS OUT .

 

Last season Ty was a integral part of the offense and 2 seasons ago was it when Knox had 9 TD's so both have proven their worth to this team all around !! 

 

I Hope Brady can more so now see or jar his memory to just how much more he has to work with given the players he has at his disposal, the possibilities are endless when all are back and healthy .
