That person seems excessively petty

I just confronted her 5 minutes ago and apologized again for not saying goodbye after the party.........didn't even acknowledge my apology and left the room.

wow.....just wow.

Here's my thing, i would never hang out with these people outside of work so i really don't want to spend my time with them at a work party.

Case in point.......

When my wife and i were leaving the party, we had a few drinks in us and said goodbye to everyone, but in the morning i realized that i didn't say goodbye to our secretary, Julie....... so because it was the weekend and i don't have her phone number, i sent her an email to explain and apologize......i know she read it on the following Monday morning and now she won't talk to me at all, just ignores me. She says hi and bye to everyone in the office each day, but me.

Like, come on.........well forget you, Julie.......and Larry (our office Ravens fan) can go to hell too.

The secretary dynamic can be fraught with peril.  Don’t they have a special “secretary day” now? Good luck to you if you forget that day.

My company has an outstanding Christmas party.  I have only worked there for three years but it's great.  It's got to cost a fortune.   Oh.  And F Julie!

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that not saying goodbye isn't her primary beef.

Ok, so i think the secretary mystery has been solved.

I was just talking to one of my coworkers and explained everything that transpired with Julie, the apology, etc........and he says, "well, it might be because of what happened in the summer......you know, the filing cabinet incident".

Oh yeah.......the filing cabinet incident.

The guy in the office next door to mine quit and they were cleaning out his office and someone had put his filing cabinet just outside of my office in the hallway, just around the corner. Three times when i stepped out of my office, i gashed my knee on the corner of this thing, deep gash, blood everywhere......i've still got the scars.

I screamed, "WHO IS THE STUPID ***HOLE THAT LEFT THIS FILING CABINET IN FRONT OF MY OFFICE!!!".........and then kicked it tumbling down the hallway.

It was the secretary, Julie who had put it there and i guess that's what she wants an apology for.........and she's not going to get it.

Are you sure the mystery has been solved?

Ask yourself why she put the filing cabinet there.

Now you've got me fearing for my life........and my manhood.

Just got back from mine...lunch, office trivia contest (each person submits an anecdote about themselves and everyone guesses who it is), and pirate gift exchange...took a little more than two hours, then BACK TO WORK.

I think I have a future as a holiday gift consultant. B-)

One company (a natioInal one, with branches all across the US) gave everyone $40 gift cards to some obscure shopping website.  Luckily that site sold Amazon gift cards, so that is what I bought with it.

i think ours is looked forward to every year and is pretty standard.  i take the office out to dinner, along with their spouses. they choose where so we switch it up yearly.   i think i'm taking 14-16 people out this weekend.  dinner, drink and i hand out bonuses.  the staff always get something nice for me as well.  Most of us have know each other a very long time, so there's no pressure with random small talk unless you're the new boyfriend or employee.  i enjoy doing it for everyone, but it's getting very expensive.

Keep doing the expensive route, your employees will appreciate it.

Little story, from my younger years.  Small local company I worked for, the owners treated us all great.  Our Christmas party was them taking us all to a local chinese restaurant (not counter/buffet, sit down service, think PF Changs style) where the owners of that restaurant were making us some dishes that were not even on the menu, free drinks, etc. And bonuses were equal to about a weeks paycheck.  Another year, the owners sold the company to people they knew.  Our next Christmas party was the owners wife deciding that everyone could bring in a dish and we'd have our party during working hours.  Our bonus that year was $50.  Needless to say, we all quit at some point in the next year, and that company is no longer in business.

I worked for a contractor years ago (probably about 50 employees + their spouses) and the owner decided to have a potluck for the Christmas party where every couple brought in food from home.

About 3/4 of the people at the party were violently sick (my wife and i included) .......we traced it back to an older couple that brought in some crab salad that must have been bad, but they put in extra spices to hide the smell and taste. It kind of tasted "off" but when you're 12 beers deep by that point, you either don't know or don't care.

The company never had potluck again and never really had any Christmas parties after that cause they didn't want people to be talking about it at the following years party (which we all would have).

Friends of ours when we were young hosted a crowd for Thanksgiving in their first house one year. They ate early and settled in to watch football. Several hours later everybody gets sick. Their home was a starter house, and it only had one bathroom. There were issues. Serious issues. There is no way I can do it justice. A survivor’s personal re-telling of that story is hysterical. 😂

Not a fan.

I think I can tell you the main reasons why:

First, they are always held on a Sunday afternoon. I'm sorry, but I spend five out of seven days a week with these people and now you want me to come in one of my two free days to spend MORE time with them?

Second, no alcohol is served. Wait a second...so you want me to give up some of my rare free time to hang out with my co-workers AND you want me to be sober as a judge when doing it?

Lastly, I work at a hotel that has lots of banquet space and holds lots of banquets. As such, our Christmas party is held AT our hotel, serving food MADE by our hotel kitchen.

So just to recap: I'm coming in to my actual workplace on my day off, eating the same sort of food I get fed in the employee cafeteria all week, and not getting to drink a drop of alcohol?

Nah. No sir. Not me. The possibility of winning an air fryer or a new set of pots and pans in the Christmas raffle isn't enough to cancel all of that out. Hold it on a weeknight in which we're all already at work, get it catered with food we don't already eat all the time, and let us drink. THEN maybe I'll be excited to come. As currently constructed? Hard pass.

Yeah, I can see how the appeal of that might not be overwhelming. Is there a hotel across the street you could at least swap with? A little change of scenery for everyone? 😂

Our parties were never anything like that. Never once on a Sunday. Sunday? It was always on a Friday or Saturday night, and usually at a nice restaurant with a private area. And there was PLENTY of alcohol. I think dinner on St Armands Circle in Sarasota would beat……more hours at work with no alcohol.

Never underestimate a woman's wrath.

I'm fairly certain i pissed my wife off back in 86 and the house has been silent and peaceful ever since.

Ah, the old hotel swap..........i could ask my wife if she's into it, but there's no guarantees that she'd be for it.
