McDermott wouldn’t know when to use a phone a friend and when not to.

These are in the moment decisions that he routinely gets wrong. It is who he is.

He should hire Romo or Brady to be his end of half/game, “time out, clock management and situational awareness” point man.  They tend to know everything up in the booth.

Don't we have a challenge flag specialist?  That doesn't seem to be working that well.  I think its easy to sit back and criticize every little naunce of a game.  Until its you on the sideline having to make high stress decisions at that moment.

Here is a fun article.

Andy Reid’s history of clock mismanagement in the NFL playoffs has often helped the Patriots

Everyone who grew up playing Madden is an expert at clock management. I guarantee Sean McDermott has never played Madden.

How many of these in game specialists do we need to hire?  Hopefully enough to where McD does not have to wear a head set anymore, have a play sheet of any kind in his vicinity, no red flags in his socks or pocks and is relegated to standing there clapping enthusiastically on the sidelines regardless of what just happened on the field.

In the case of 13 seconds it sounds like McD had told the ST coach to kick it in the field of play so wasn't on him.  This past week I do question if there was also some type of miscommunications on the field as if they were running "the Orchard Park Snowplow", why wasn't there a RB behind him to help push him forward like there normally is?  I tend to question if that was the called play??

One of Mc'D strong points is he'll rarely blame anyone else and just keep it internally so we'll never know for certain.

That has never been officially verified, has it ?

True that.  Men who achieve great things probably dont have much time for video games.

I have been beating this drum for many years. Makes no sense for any head coach to have this role.

HC is like the CEO. Get an operations guy to handle clock management and challenges on game day.

Having someone on the sidelines or upstairs game planning the last drive , while the head coach is focusing on the task at hand makes perfect sense.

Especially the key factor of using the timeouts.

McDermott has been coaching since he was like 22. I was winning Madden tournaments at 22. Who do you want in charge of the clock management?

Easy answer.

So you made it up as part of a hit piece. Got it.

Not at all. It's essential to approach discussions with clarity and evidence rather than assumptions. Constructive dialogue relies on understanding context and facts, not jumping to conclusions.

Can we hire Tom Brady?!?!  How much is Fox paying him?

Honestly thought the same thing….

I'm just curious: does he get credit for the Bills' 10 wins this season, or does he only get blame for the losses?

Josh and Brady get the credit. They won the games. McClappy was just along for the ride which is a microcosm of his tenure with Josh.

i was hoping you'd be able to make the simple inference

if you need a new clock management specialist you need a new HC-->many coaches struggle w clock management = single worst example in recent memory(mcdermott struggles more than other coaches)-->many coaches do not in fact struggle w clock management to the same degree as the HC in mention

hope this helps

The majority of teams in the NFL need new head coaches, then.

Clock management is an issue across the league.

Is clock management really a thing or just hindsight?

McVay was under fire his first few years for numerous clock management mistakes. It came to head a year ago when it cost them a chance at a comeback drive in the playoffs. Since then he hired an assistant coach who specializes in clock management and timeout usage, so they do exist (and that guy had to be laughing his ass off last weekend). The biggest hurdle seems to be coaches that can't put their egos aside.
