Between making them do 3rd down over that wasted 40 seconds, and using the TO, there could have been 1:20 on the clock when they punted.

My question is if the refs called holding on 4th down and it makes it 4th and 10 does he go for the 1st again or kick the FG?

I don't think he has any confidence in his ability to stop Josh Allen. So he probably goes for it.

The clock was stopped before the play due to the penalty.  You can’t spike the ball when the clock was stopped prior to the snap.

Correct.  Should have realized that.  Thanks.  Could have audibles then if he didn’t like the play.

How do you figure.  It was PI in end zone.  On the 1, not the 1 1/2.  And the rest of this on Allen is just people projecting.  We lost, it's

You are correct, I was mistaken.  This might change the chance of making it somewhat (bear in mind, in the filed of play 3rd & 1 means anything < 36", so although he converts  "3rd & 1" at about 90%, it usually requires making < 1 full yard.)  But my point is the call per se, I think is dubious, but defendable; taking the TO after it failed was outright a mistake.

Roll out.  See if one TE leaks open.  Of if he can run it in.  Or throw it away if nothing is there.

I don't get this.  They are bunched up to do the tush push how is he going to roll out and why would a TE be running a pattern? Aren't the TE's driving their heads into D linemen belly's? Allen just can't change the play that the O Coordinator calls in that situation with the tush push personnel.  Are you trying to insinuate that Allen screwed up here?

I doubt they play it the same way, up 2 at their 30, us with 3 TO’s … they would’ve tried to end it with Stafford.

Exactly. They played ultra conservative because at that point they could But if we used our 3 timeouts and there was like a minute left still after 4th down they would have been calling more aggressive plays on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down. They might even be tempted to go for it on 4th down.

Personally, I would have thrown the ball on 1st and 2nd down. Third down I probably do the tush push play. But absolutely don't call a timeout if it fails. And then 4th down do the tush push again. Make them stop it two times in a row.

I actually don't hate the call for the tush push. It's a very high probability play that just didn't work out. Problem is calling the timeout. That lost us about 25 seconds. Should have had another play ready to go and just get to the line quickly only using about 15 - 18 seconds.

There are games where we are automatic for 2 yards every time on the tush push. But we got stuffed earlier in the game, and then just barely converted when we had like half yard to go. The Rams had already showed they matched up very well on that play. It was a huge mistake.

Had they gotten great pushes throughout the earlier part of the game, I wouldn't be quite as down on it.

I’m wondering if Josh liked the play.  Many say he didn’t.  If so then I wonder why he didn’t change the play.

In his post game he gave the “I just ran the play called”. So I doubt he liked it. I also noticed after he got it in the endzone walking off the field he went over to McD, covered his mouth and said something to him. Not sure if anyone else caught that. Looked like he didn’t have want the cameras to catch what he was saying

I mean it's there best 1 yr to go pickup play. The only thing they messed up was not planning to go hurry up if they missed it and try the sneak again

Except that ISN'T the play they ran.  @ 2:20 in the video.

I started the thread asking if Josh liked the play.  But you’re correct that it wasn’t truly the sneak they run; they usually have two guys pushing. I wonder if Josh didn’t like the play could he have audibles?  Or maybe just take the ball and airmail it over Cook’s head to the left and line up again?  I had suggested he spike it but was corrected because time was not running for the play and it would have been a penalty.

So maybe not a bad call, but bad player management in that he didn’t have the two guys behind him.

We'll probably never know the answer, as with so many questions...

We stopped them on third down and they punted right after that.

Because they knew we couldn’t stop the clock and ran it 3 times.   If we had all three timeouts, they had their entire playbook open to do whatever they wanted.  And the way that defense played, there was no way to stop them.

This is why I’d love someone to be a fly on the wall.  With the right package I think they score.  So I’d love to know if Josh liked the play because he could have changed it or spiked it.

Yeah, he could have changed the call.

My guess is that he had tremendous confidence that he could get it done.
