I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he’s not a difference maker, he’s GOT to have somebody taking attention away from him or he’s a nobody.  That really means he’s a nobody.  He’s quick for his size, but he’s still not big enough nor strong enough to be an impact player on his own.  It was a wasted top 10 pick and a bad contract to extend him.   He’s a rotational player in the NFL, not more.  Even more exciting is the $21M cap hit for next year and a $26+M dead cap if you try to get rid of him.  Great use of cap for a guy that does literally nothing more than anyone else.

We are set up for 2026 as being the next contract shift time. He’ll be here at minimum through there but he does have some outs in 2026 and 2027 that are reasonable. Chances are we won’t find a better player and develop them before that time anyways

Carter is already better.

I wouldn’t go that far yet but I am pretty high on Carter overall more than a lot of others

I’ll say it, he’s been more impactful with his time on the field.  Statistically, they are identical and Carter is hundreds of snaps behind for the same production.

He was good last year, and that was after the contract.

I said it in another thread but he had put in 6 months of prep for his walk year right before he signed that contract.   Hay was in the barn so the results followed.   Not sure if he got around to making any hay this past offseason.   Looks like naw.

Well he didn't look good yesterday and I could have sworn I saw him go off the field favoring his arm like he had re-injured that wrist.

He got the snot kicked out of him yesterday.

And yeah, I also saw him go off looking like he was having a problem with a with a wrist or lower arm.

I have never gotten the love for him. Before last year's 9.5 sack season, he averaged around 4-5. And the 4-5 average were all starting rep seasons in years we were desperate for DL play. I think he's just an average player and will put up 4-5 sacks a year. Nothing special.

NFL offenses have been much more run oriented this season as a league-wide strategy to counter all the defensive coverages used to slow down passing attacks the last few years. Ed has been a casualty of that imo.

Also, it feels like we're practically daring teams to run more. In season's past, McD would sell out to stop the run vs. certain opponents. That's not happening this year.
