Rasul Douglas is strictly a zone CB.  He got exposed against the Rams when Buffalo tried to play some man.  I get that Elam is a liability on special teams, but when he's starting, that liability becomes less of an issue.  Elam is still not a great zone CB, I suppose, but he's not the liability he was as a rookie.  If Buffalo is going to adjust their defense to be more effective at stopping the run and pressuring the QB more it stands to reason they are going to need far better play out of their D-linemen and/or mix in some more man coverage from their CBs.

I've been saying basically the same thing for 3 years now. McD's stubbornness has it's strengths, but it also has it's weaknesses when you run into a hot offense every now and again that can pick apart the zones and has really good skill position players. I think Elam could be a major help at just breaking tendencies every now and again. And it would give teams more to worry about on tape. It's not like Elam has been void of production when he has played. But he's not a good ST's player so... I guess we sit the 1st Rd pick... Anyway...

At the end of the day McDermott just doesn't have any excuses to be terrible on his side of the ball in the playoffs.

Even if a couple guys get banged up and you need to play young guys etc. KC had a couple injuries in the secondary vs Cincinnati in the afc championship and literally had all rookies in the secondary playing if I'm not mistaken. They still were solid ( not great) and held the Bengals to 20 points.

Like I don't need McDermott to be great on defense. Just don't be a horror show. Don't give up ten frickin yds per play. Don't be afraid to play a couple young guys with more athletic ability if a vet is banged up.

Elam and Williams should've played vs KC in the playoffs last year

Again, I feel like my expectations are completely reasonable. 20-24 pts given up on defense. Force them to punt more than once lol.

McDermott cannot be so bad on defense that he only forces 6 punts in the past 4 elimination games. That's completely absurd

We have enough key backups where he doesn't have the injury excuses
