The situational awareness is baffling at times, especially at the end of games.

I just don’t understand the logic. Any kind of stop there (as good as Josh is) will burn clock and you’re forced to use one of your 3 timeouts. It’s like conceding the game is over unless you recover the onside kick. And that’s exactly how it played out.

It’s absurd.

It definitely should've been four pass play calls at maximum to the end zone.  The only way you can justify it is Allen is usually money with those QB sneaks so Brady/Allen/McDermott thought there was no way in hell they weren't sneaking it in for a TD there.  Rams defense made a great play.  It would've been much better if it was first and goal from the 4 instead of from the 1.

The sneak/timeout is beyond inexcusable.

You have to pass it there.

If you do decide to sneak for some reason, you need a play ready to go if you don't get the TD

How many years now and this guy still cannot figure out game management in crucial times. It's not even complicated stuff that he continues to mess up

That to me was the most simple thing they have ever messed up under him. Most of the game management issues are judgment calls. That isn't a judgment call. Anyone who has ever watched an NFL game knows that the only way to win there is score on that drive and retain 3 time outs.

If they'd called incomplete passes and he'd kicked the FG on 4th and 1 he'd have got killed but I'd have defended it. That would have been a decision with some logic even if unpopular.

The one thing you can not do there is use your timeouts.

It is inexcusable.

His opinion of the Bills offensive line not controlling the line of scrimmage is a little crazy, IMO. They allowed zero sacks and the Bills averaged nearly 9 yards per play. They ran the ball for over 4 yards per carry and scored 42 points.  I mean, what does he want? “We could’ve run the ball better with our running backs…” come on.

They didn't first half. That would be fair. Thought we lost both trenches first half. But the oline played a great 2nd half.

Some claim Allen audibled into that which is why McD was giving him an earful on the sidelines after since a pass was called.

That’s what I thought because Josh started out in the shotgun and then moved under center.

He said "give me the best play at 1 yard line," and they believed Allen sneaking is the best play. They need to develop a best passing play at 1 yard line.

In hindsight, yes a pass may have been the better choice.  Thing is, they’ve been doing great with the Josh sneak and tush push.  Would have been better if they immediately got back to the line and ran it again.

agreed. I was fully expecting this to be a

Cook and Ray Davis game. I thought we might see Davis with like 15 carries. He got none.

better TOP would have helped the defense.

When you’re down by three scores in the second half, you aren’t trying to run out the clock. You are trying to score asap, which is what they were doing. The TOP discrepancy was mostly caused by the defense as the Bills had to abandon both the run and the short passing game to have a chance.

It was a sneaky sneak….they also tried that unsuccessfully in tennessee at the end of a game a couple years ago.  The crime was the timeout and not as much the call/play.  I understand the argument against a run but they could have run a play after losing 15 seconds.   The time out all but ended the game.

Sounds to me he's resigned to defeat when Rams scored last TD. A lot of the end game decision discussions from him is like either options (on-side or stop them 3 times with timeouts) are not good which leads me to believe that he did not think the Bills would stop the Rams even if we had 3 timeouts. He pretty much said he believed McVay would go for the 4th down on the one where Bills declined the holding penalty.

Also interesting that he admitted the team's "urgency" is not there right from the start.

his own urgency wasn’t there when he elected to punt down two scores on 4th an 2 and the end of first half.

McD's candidacy for Coach of the Year has lasted 1 week.

NEVER, EVER going to get that!

Why?

Because every voter recalls this ever increasing laundry list of ‘13 Second’ buffoonery! The snatching of defeat(s), because his McClappy brain cannot process instant, critical, end of game decision making, nor the correct use of TOs!

Agreee he will not win it but it is because they tend to give it to the coach of a team that had no expectations but then had a good season. Reid is also not considered.  Reid also makes gaffes in time management.

His presser was typical coach-speak, but I would hope McDermott could level with the team and not just pretend all was fine. He could say we have to be better as coaches too, and that they'll review the late game decisions.

Also, maybe he could address the last play of the game in meetings this week. It should not be acceptable for the Bills have too many or not enough players on the field for the final play of a game, as in Denver last year (12) and this game (9!?).

I remember a certain passing play for Seattle in the Super Bowl a number of years back. Maybe not quite at the 1, but we know how it turned out. Allen is pretty much money on these sneak type plays. Just didn’t get in that time. I didn’t hate the strategy.

Crazy to think that a 42 point day on the road by any Bills team would be called a let down.

It’s not that they lose. It’s how they lose.  A blow out loss hurts much less, than games we have a real chance to win. Any time a coach costs you a real chance to win it’s a major let down. How many times do we have to see it.  Smh.

McD said over and over again they lost in the trenches in his presser, which makes the sneak play even more baffling. In the first quarter they also got stuffed on a QB sneak at the goal line

I don’t get the complete doom and gloom about losing the 1 seed.  The Bills just now have to win next week.  Tough job, but they have the talent to do it.  And KC can lose every single week they play.  I know it hasn’t happened yet, but it still just as likely.

Why he and some people on this board don’t get it is beyond infuriating.

we are normally money from one yard out with josh. but earlier in that game, we needed one, and the Rams made us take two shots to get it with the sneak, and we still BARELY got it. Same exact thing happened with a minute to go. McD, Brady or whoever should have learned from what happened earlier in the game. The Rams interior D Line matched us too well in those obvious short yardage spots.
