Matt Milano - rusty or washed?

Is it fair to ask if the Bills were better defensively with Williams over Milano?

To me it's a double edged sword. I don't believe players should lose starting positions to injury in most cases. But over the course of the year Williams has earned that spot IMO. 

 

If I was Williams or even another member of that defense I would be a bit out out that the guy starting and playing well for the most part is riding pine so that Milano can get his sea legs. Though I will say Milano moved a bit more freely yesterday as opposed to a week ago where he was doing an excellent "Weekend at Bernie's" impression. And we are possibly going to do the same thing with Hyde in the coming weeks.

I am not sure I agree with "Williams has earned that spot". He has been extremely inconsistent. 

 

I agree Matt does not look fully back to me.... but I am not sure they are keeping a clearly better player on the bench.

I dont think Williams makes any difference in this game. I would love to know what you think he improves?

The idea we were told was to put Milano on a pitch count to ease him back into playing while giving Williams sufficient playing time but thst isn't what's happening.

If you aren't sure, I think a better way of phrasing on my part would be that at least Williams has at least entered the conversation for who should be starting. Which is a far cry from where he was this time last year.

 

If it's me and I want to have a team that wins today and wins in the future, I play the ascending player over the older vet.

I am a huge Milano fan but think with his past two injuries he is currently a downgrade from Dorian. I think he will get back to his all pro form but why isn’t the coaching staff at least splitting reps. Milano was exposed multiple times yesterday and appears to still be a step or two slow. Probably an unpopular opinion but feel Williams needs to get on the field more.

I think they just want Milano to get reps and knock some rust off before the playoffs. I’m not mad at it. Im

sure they’ll revalue who they want starting by the playoffs.

I agree with knocking the rust off. But maybe ease him back versus taking all snaps away from Williams.

Milano was exposed multiple times yesterday? I recall one where he over pursued.

 

The defensive line was exposed yesterday.

 

Taron Johnson had his worst game that I can recall.

 

Milano will be fine and was fine yesterday. I don’t remember him getting picked on at all.

The priority is giving Milano the opportunity to prove he can still be the all-pro version of himself. It's going to take more than 2 games to get there if it's possible. Not giving him all the reps he can handle would only delay his ability to get up to speed after a year and a half.

Milano will never be what he once was.  This isn't just about rust.  They need to go back to Dorian and use Milano on blitz packages.
